UE CFAD Student Makes It to the Finalists of the UST On-the-Spot Painting Contest
UE CFAD – College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design BFA Painting student Vince Oliver R. Antonio has made it to the circle of finalists in this year’s UST On-the-Spot Painting Contest, held last February 28 at Plaza Mayor.
Mr. Antonio was last year’s 2nd Place winner, making this recognition even more meaningful as it marks his final participation in the prestigious competition before graduating from UE CFAD.
His entry, titled “Sa Mata ng Pagdiriwang” (Acrylic on Canvas, 30 × 40 inches, 2026), interprets this year’s theme, “Philippine Festivities: Painting the Spirit of Philippine Celebrations.”
The artwork portrays a woman holding a vintage camera to her eye, symbolizing how Filipino celebrations are viewed through the lens of history and memory. Surrounding her are vibrant fragments of festivals, traditions, cultural icons, and historical narratives, radiating from a golden halo that represents identity and heritage.
At the base of the composition, elements of nature—flowers, fruits, and a butterfly—symbolize life, abundance, and the continuing growth of Filipino culture. The work emphasizes that every celebration carries a deeper origin, shaped by the stories and sacrifices of those who came before us.
Mr. Antonio’s achievement reflects both his dedication to his craft and the artistic excellence nurtured within the UE CFAD community.
Congratulations, Vince!
