Today, the Church remembers Saint Augustine of Hippo (354โ430), one of the greatest theologians and teachers in Church history, known as the โDoctor of Grace.โ
Raised by his faithful mother, Saint Monica, Augustine spent many years searching for truth and wandering away from the Catholic faith. Through the prayers of his mother, the guidance of Saint Ambrose, and his encounter with the Word of God, Augustine experienced a profound conversion.
Baptized in 387, he later became a priest and Bishop of Hippo, dedicating his life to preaching, teaching, defending the faith, and serving Godโs people. His writings, especially Confessions and The City of God, continue to inspire Christians today.
Saint Augustine reminds us that Godโs grace can reach even the most wandering heart. No matter how far we may have gone, God continues to call us back to Him.
Saint Augustine of Hippo, pray for us!
