The DWCC community warmly welcomed our guests and professionals (Faculty and Non-teaching personnel) from Saint Jude Catholic School in San Miguel, Manila. The opening prayer was led by Mr. Rommel Villas, followed by some inputs and reminders from Barangay Councilor Joel Carena. Our guests then freely shared their reflections after planting the mangrove trees. The program concluded with a closing prayer, the SVD Motto, and a tribute to our Blessed Mother Mary. Let us continue to support our nature and environment, our common home!

As our Mangyan children reach another milestone with the opening of School Year 2026–2027, DWCC, through the generous support and donation drive of the Campus Ministry Office (CMO) and the Center for Spirituality and Mission (CSaM), continues to ensure that our beloved “budangs” begin their first day of school with excitement, confidence, and hope.
Through the program component “Aklatan sa Pamayanang Mangyan: Shaping Minds and Hearts of Marginalized Mangyan Children for Integral Development,” we provide not only a safe, accessible, and well-lit study hub, but also a structured system of academic assistance and guidance throughout the year.
This initiative reached the Mangyan communities of Pamayanan ng Bulod, Brgy. Mabuhay 1, Socorro; Pamayanan ng Paraiso, Brgy. Conception, Victoria; and Pamayanan ng Togo, Brgy. Malo, Bansud.
May these simple blessings inspire our children to pursue their dreams, improve their academic performance, and continue striving toward a brighter and better future. Together, let us continue shaping minds and hearts through compassion, education, and service. 📚✨

SBHTM and Graduate School Tree Planting Activity

The 4th year students from School of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Management (SBHTM) together with Graduate School students, faculty and employees of DWCC energetically participated in the Mangrove Tree Planting Activity held at Wawa Mangrove Ecopark. Present also were some members of the Barangay Wawa Calapan Let us continue to give importance to our Mother Nature, our common home.

College Graduating Class of 2025–2026
Mangrove Tree Planting Activity
May 1, 2026 – Feast Day of St. Joseph the Worker

The graduating class from the different schools of Divine Word College of Calapan conducted a simultaneous, batch-organized mangrove tree planting activity at Wawa Mangrove Eco-Park, Barangay Wawa, Calapan City. Students, instructor-advisers, faculty members, and other college personnel actively participated in the event.

The activity was led by the CES Coordinator, Ms. Ma. Aimee R. Bermudez, who delivered the opening remarks and provided important reminders. Participants assembled before dawn and arrived at Wawa Mangrove Eco-Park before 6:00 AM.

Originally scheduled to be held at Laudato Si’ Farm in Gloria, Oriental Mindoro, the activity was later rescheduled and relocated to Barangay Wawa, Calapan City. This change was made in response to cost-efficiency measures necessitated by the rising fuel prices associated with the oil crisis and ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The program commenced with an opening prayer, the SVD Motto Prayer, followed by a brief presentation on the history of the Wawa Mangrove Eco-Park project.

This initiative originated as a response to the devastating effects of the 1994 Mindoro earthquake, which severely impacted the area.

In 2011, Divine Word College of Calapan, through its Community Extension Services Office, adopted Barangay Wawa and initiated mangrove rehabilitation efforts through tree planting and coastal clean-up activities involving students, faculty, and partner organizations. A formal partnership among the Barangay Local Government Unit and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources was later established through a Memorandum of Agreement.

As rehabilitation efforts progressed, the community envisioned transforming the area into a Mangrove Eco-Park. Benchmarking activities were conducted to guide its sustainable development. The project aims to promote community development through environmental protection, disaster preparedness, ecotourism, and livelihood opportunities.

Selected students shared their reflections on their experiences during the activity. The event concluded with a closing prayer of adoration to the Most Holy Trinity.

Grade 10 and 12 Students' Basic Education Tree Planting Activity

April 11, 2026

Wawa Mangrove Eco-Park, Barangay Wawa, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro

The students from Grade 10 and some from Grade 12, with their teacher-advisers of the DWCC Basic Education Department, actively participated in the Mangrove Tree Planting Activity held at Wawa Eco-Park. An opening prayer was offered by Ms. Cristy Marquez. Welcome remarks, gentle safety reminders, and a brief history of the Wawa Eco-Park Project were discussed by Mr. Lauren E. Mercado, Community Extension Services Assistant and Tree Planting Facilitator. This was followed by Wawa Barangay Councilor Hon. Joel Carena shared tips on proper tree planting. After the session they also freely shared how they felt, such as enjoyment and happiness after a fulfilling event. *A closing prayer was offered altogether giving praise and adoration to the Most Holy Trinity followed by honor to the Blessed Mother Mary on a Saturday.
