COE Today: Andrada, Imperial, Leron Named Best in Practice Teaching for BSE

Excellence in teaching begins long before graduationโ€”and for three teacher interns of the College of Education, months of classroom immersion, rigorous evaluations, and reflective practice culminated in a well-earned recognition.

John Albert Andrada of BSE Mathematics, Wassim Charbel Imperial of BSE English, and Vincent Leron of BSE Filipino were proclaimed Best in Practice Teaching for BSE after successfully completing a competitive three-phase selection process.
The recognition honors teacher interns who demonstrated exemplary performance during their internship deployment in cooperating schools.

The selection process began with Phase 1, where 29 teacher interns were endorsed by their respective cooperating schools for outstanding performance in their practice teaching. Their classroom management, instructional delivery, professionalism, and commitment to learners became the basis for their endorsement.

For Phase 2, the endorsed interns underwent a qualifying examination administered by the selection committee last May 25, 2026, which identified the top-performing candidates.

While today, May 28, 2026, Seventeen teacher interns advanced to Phase 3, a closed-door interview where candidates reflected on their internship experiences and presented their portfolios and teaching manifestos. The final phase sought to evaluate not only pedagogical skills but also the internsโ€™ vision, values, and philosophy as future educators.

The teacher interns who qualified for the final interview were:

๐—œ๐—ก ๐—ฃ๐—›๐—ข๐—ง๐—ข๐—ฆ | Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) - College of Education, in partnership with the LGU - Calabanga through the Calabanga Tourism and Cultural Promotions Office, held the Litfest: Room to Dream Lecture Series on April 30, 2026, at the Calabanga Museum, where literature sparked creativity, dialogue, and cultural recognition among the participants.

The session opened with an inspiring speech from Dr. Noel Celeste, Dean of the College of Education, highlighting the partnershipโ€™s promise between the Calabanga Tourism and Cultural Promotions Officeand the CBSUA - Calabanga, pledging steady support for future initiatives.

Mr. Edwin Breva Jr. advocated teaching Bikol literature, urging educators to embrace it as a vital reflection of local identity and experience. He challenged the notion that we donโ€™t learn grammar through literature, arguing instead that it fosters natural language mastery.

Mr. Richard Parato shared tips for teaching Usipon (short stories) to enhance studentโ€™s cultural identity, develop critical thinking, and connect them to local traditions and values. He stresses cultural appreciation by incorporating language nuances and relating Usipon to daily life.

Ms. Marlene Ramos highlighted imagination as key to investing students emotionally, sparking curiosity, embracing diversity, and creating room to dream as the prerequisite for genuine critical engagement, insists that imagination and argumentation partners as allies rather than opposites.

Dr. Douglas Angel A. Aragon II, explored tigsik, a traditional Bikol oral poetry form, emphasizing its artistic articulation through metaphors for multiple meanings, distinguishing literature from technical writing. He explained how tigsik and other local literary forms continue to be relevant in both teaching and writing.

With Ms. Cynthia Coderis as the Master of Ceremony, seamlessly ensuring the flow of the event, introducing the various speakers that gave insights during the lecture.

To close the session, Ms. Miel Bongon, the Calabanga Tourism Officer gives her thanks for the partnership to the CBSUA - Calabanga College of Education alongside Hon. Henrico Rey B. Delos Santos, Municipal Councilor, representative of Hon. Philip Dumalasa, Municipal Mayor, and reaffirmed commitment to local artists, writers, and cultural enthusiast.

As this lecture series draws to a close, may we continue to embrace education's true power: nurturing curious minds, weaving cultural threads into every lesson, and empowering students to dream boldly, reflect deeply, and shape a brighter tomorrow.
