Ang Kasaysayan ng APO sa Pilipinas

Ang Alpha Phi Omega sa Estados Unidos ay itinatag ni Frank Reed Horton noong Disyembre 16, 1925, sa Lafayette College. Noong 1950, ang propesyonal na scouter na si Sol George Levy, isang miyembro ng APO mula sa University of Washington sa Seattle, ay nagtungo sa Pilipinas upang pukawin ang interes sa scouting movement sa bansa. Nag-imbita si Levy ng mga scout sa Maynila para sa isang kumperensya, kung saan ipinanukala niya ang pagtatayo ng isang scouting-based service fraternity sa bansa at nagpamahagi ng mga lathalain ng APO sa mga dumalo.

Isang grupo ng mga scout sa pamumuno ni Librado I. Ureta mula sa Far Eastern University ang nagpakita ng matinding interes. Noong Marso 2, 1950, itinatag niya at ng 20 iba pa ang unang organisasyon ng APO sa labas ng Estados Unidos, na kilala ngayon bilang Alpha Chapter. Ang organisasyon ay kalaunang nirehistro sa Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sa ilalim ng pangalang Alpha Phi Omega (Philippines)

Frank Reed Horton, the visionary founder of Alpha Phi Omega, lived a life dedicated to service, leadership, and brotherhood. He passed away on August 28, 1966, and now rests alongside his beloved wife in Washington Cemetery in Washington, New Jersey—a peaceful reminder of a legacy built on compassion and purpose. Though he is no longer with us, his ideals continue to inspire countless brothers and sisters around the world to lead with heart, serve selflessly, and make a meaningful difference in every life they touch. May his legacy remind us that true greatness is measured not by what we achieve for ourselves, but by what we give to others.

A Century of Leadership, Friendship, and Service

On this day, December 16, 1925, in a quiet room at Brainerd Hall (which was renamed Hogg Hall in 1944), a vision was born—a vision that would inspire generations to lead, to serve, and to build lasting friendships. From that single ritual conducted by Frank Reed Horton, Alpha Phi Omega began its journey, carrying with it the ideals of scouting and the unwavering belief that service can transform lives.

Today, we stand at the threshold of history—100 years strong. A hundred years of brothers and sisters answering the call to serve. A hundred years of projects that uplift communities, of friendships that span lifetimes, of leaders molded by the principles we hold dear.

As we celebrate this milestone, we honor every step taken, every hand extended, every heart that believed in the power of service. From campus grounds to global communities, APO has been a beacon of hope and unity.
