“Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them in times of trouble.” Psalm 41:1 NIV
“Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” Proverbs 14:31 NIV
Scripture is full of references to God’s concern for those who are poor, vulnerable and oppressed. Scripture mentions poverty and injustice more than any other issu
es. Yet, how many of us have spent time really considering the plight of the poor through God’s eyes? WIN Ortigas responded to the heartbeat of God by ministering to the poor families in Napico Pasig. We saw children desperate to pursue their studies but as poverty overtake them, their hopes and dreams start to collapse. The building project that was conceived in the heart of WIN Ortigas Leadership is not just about the physical building but about building the hopes and the dreams of poor children and their respective families. We started with 10 children by giving them 1,000 pesos per month (or $20/mo) and school supplies. This school year 2016-2017, we added 10 more kids and we desire to add 10 kids per year. The kids belong to a family with an average income of 5,000 pesos (or $100) per month. And with the monthly allowance that the church gives help them to hope and dream again for a brighter future. The WIN Holistic Compassion Foundation Vision:
Our vision is to help alleviate poverty beginning with 10 families in 2015 and adding 10 more every year until 2020 for a total of 60 families, through Holistic Compassion, a balanced support system of Spiritual Care, Free Education and Livelihood assistance. The need of the poor is not just money or jobs or faith. They need a healthy balance of all the essential necessities in life. That's why, we aim to provide Holistic Compassion that focus on 10 families at a time. These 10 families are provided three basic necessities: Education, Spiritual Care and Livelihood.
1) Educational Scholarship grant for one of their kids,
2) Livelihood assistance in the form of training, Mentoring and business capital assistance
3) Parent's Small Group support system. What measurable outcomes will be realized by the end of 2020:
By 2020, 50% of the 60 families' kids have graduated from school. Among our current scholars, we forecast 10 College and 20 High School graduates. That 40 families have improved economically through the livelihood programs provided, having business of their own and be self-reliant. How you can help. Ways in which you can help can be almost as varied as there are people to be helped. It could be as simple as giving a one-time donation for one child, or making a pledge for one year or whatever you want, to be our partner in this ministry. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in this and to give you his heart for the poor. Your compassion will grow as you seek God and His heart. May you become our partner on this great privilege of doing the will of God for the furtherance of His kingdom here on earth.
