Ever wonder where all our maps actually begin? Let's dive into the reference points that keep our country's infrastructure grounded!

NO DATUM, NO MAP!
Every single map, survey, and GPS coordinate needs a starting point. That's the Datumโ€”the essential reference frame defining the origin, orientation, and scale of our coordinate system. It gives us both our horizontal (latitude/longitude) and vertical (elevation) references.

THE HEART OF THE PHILIPPINES
Where is the exact geodetic center of our country? Look no further than Marinduque Island! The famous Balanacan Station is the defining initial point where our nation's spatial identity was literally set in stone.

THE 1911 LEGACY
For decades, the Luzon Datum of 1911 and its geometric base, the Clarke Spheroid of 1866, shaped our maps. It marked the start of standardized, scientific surveying that built the physical infrastructure we rely on today.

GOING HIGH-TECH
Fast forward to modern times! The historical 1911 Datum evolved into the Philippine Reference System of 1992 (PRS92). We kept the exact same origin point in Marinduque, but upgraded our precision by re-measuring everything with advanced satellite technology.

Get your field notes readyโ€”the GE Precision Point Challenge is coming for your brain cells next.

Stay tuned and watch out for our IG Stories!

Believe it or not, itโ€™s been nearly a month since we wrapped up our three-day congress! While the memories are still fresh, we want to hear from you!

Whether you were a participant, an officer, or a volunteer, your voice is the primary coordinate we need to map out an even better experience for the future. It only takes a few minutes, but your impact will last until the next editions of MAGEC!

Relive the history-making moments of the 1st Mindanao-Area Geodetic Engineering Congress (MAGEC 2026). From the technical challenges of TUKMA and INDIGIYA to the industry insights of MAGEC Talks, weโ€™ve officially set the course for Mindanao's next generation of surveyors.

This wasnโ€™t just a congress; it was a movement to unify the geospatial leaders of tomorrow. With over 300 delegates coming together from 4 different schools across the region, weโ€™ve proven that the future of Geodetic Engineering in Mindanao is stronger than ever.

We came to learn, we stayed to compete, and we left as one unified Mindanao. See you at the next bearing!

Thank you so much University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines for the warm welcome!

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Cagayan de Oro (USTP CDO) held the 1st Mindanao Area Geodetic Engineering Congress (MAGEC) 2026 on February 23 โ€“ 25, 2026, at the Dr. Ricardo E. Rotoras (DRER) Memorial Hall, USTP CDO. The MAGEC 2026 marked a historic milestone for the Geodetic Engineering community in the region.

As MAGEC 2026 comes to a close, we gather for Higalaayโ€”a night dedicated to the friendships and collaborations that make our community strong.

Weโ€™re kicking things off with words from words from Vergel Presillas and Edy Jason Tompong, followed by an evening of dinner, games, and awarding our E-Sports champions. Letโ€™s end this year's convention on a high note!

What a profound journey it has been! As the lights dim at the USTP Gym, we are filled with immense gratitude for the stories shared and the connections forged during the final day of MAGEC 2026. Beyond the schedules and sessions, today was a beautiful testament to the heart of the Geodetic Engineering community.

We are deeply moved by the wisdom imparted by our speakers Engr. Jillian Glaze A. Sapalleda, Engr. Junel O. Bermudez, Engr. Fernando B. Gurrea, and Engr. Mark Dave Plaza whose words didn't just teach us about careers, but inspired us to lead with purpose. Our gratitude also goes to our industry partners and to Rica Faye Obido and Engr. Denrazir Atara for guiding us through this historic conclusion.

To our awardees and every single participant: your energy is the soul of . We saw your grit in every competition and your passion in every handshake at the company fair. As we carry home our trophies, certificates, and new friendships, let us remember that the excellence we celebrated today is only the beginning of what we will achieve together. Thank you for making this convention a true landmark for Mindanao.
