As we begin the National Peace Consciousness Month, we celebrate the everyday peacebuilders, including families, communities, Indigenous Peoples, women, youth, leaders, and partners, whose acts of kindness and courage make a lasting difference.

Because peace is not simply a destination. It is a daily practice. It is built every day.

On World Humanitarian Day, we honor the resilience, courage, and hope of our partner communities who continue to overcome the challenges of conflict, disasters, and displacement.

At Balay Mindanaw, we are committed to humanitarian action that is conflict- and culturally sensitive, gender-responsive, and inclusive, ensuring that no one is left behind.

We also reaffirm the importance of respecting and protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of humanitarian workers, who serve communities with courage and compassion.

We thank our partner communities, the Balay Mindanaw team, local governments, local responders, and our donors and partners for their unwavering commitment to protecting lives, upholding dignity, and building more resilient communities.

Balay Mindanaw brought together officers and personnel from the 9th Special Forces Company Lianga MPS PNP 1st Surigao del Sur Provincial Mobile Force Company for the Operation Peace Course (Batch 113) on July 28–30, 2026, in Lianga, Surigao del Sur.

The course contributes to building a modern, professional, and conflict-sensitive security sector by strengthening participants’ understanding of conflict dynamics, human rights, and peacebuilding approaches that promote accountable and community-centered public service.

The sessions were enriched by the insights of Balay Mindanaw Chair Gerry Bulatao and General Reginald Villasanta (ret), who also serves in the Balay Mindanaw Board.

Through dialogue and shared learning, participants reaffirmed their commitment to advancing peace, protecting communities, and strengthening trust between security institutions and the people they serve.

Balay Mindanaw extends its sincere appreciation to Mayor Doc Boy Layno and Local Government Unit of Lianga for their invaluable support.

We’re proud to be part of the Drought Anticipatory Action Project (DAAP) in Tawi-Tawi with People in Need Philippines and Tarbilang Foundation, Inc.

With support from the Start Network through the Start Fund, we’re helping 3,000 households prepare for the forecasted impacts of El Niño through safe water, livelihood support, and community preparedness.

🚨 NEW PROJECT: Helping Tawi-Tawi Prepare for El Niño 🌊☀️

Communities in Tawi-Tawi will receive support to prepare for the forecasted impacts of El Niño through the Drought Anticipatory Action Project (DAAP) – Tawi-Tawi.

Supported through a £200,000 (approximately PHP 16 million) grant from the Start Fund of the Start Network, the project will be implemented by People in Need Philippines, Balay Mindanaw Foundation Inc. and Tarbilang Foundation, Inc.

DAAP will support 3,000 households (around 15,000 people) across the island municipalities of Sitangkai, Sibutu, South Ubian, and Tandubas before drought conditions worsen.

Support will include:
💧 Improving access to safe water through rainwater harvesting and community water system repairs.
🌱 Protecting livelihoods through cash assistance and support for seaweed farming and home gardening.
📣 Providing climate information in local languages and training community health workers in Psychological First Aid.

By acting before the worst impacts are felt, the project aims to help communities protect their health, water supply, and livelihoods during the El Niño season.

Peace is stronger when women lead. 💜

For three inspiring days (July 28–30, 2026), leaders and changemakers from the LGU Bukidnon, City Government of Valencia, Bukidnon, and Cagayan de Oro City Information Office, together with Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) officers from the Bukidnon Police Provincial Office, PNP Valencia City Police Station, and PNP Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, as well as media partners, partner Barangay LGUs, and civil society organizations, came together to turn the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda into action through the Bridging Leadership Master Trainers Training.

Together, participants strengthened their knowledge, built meaningful partnerships, and deepened their commitment to advancing inclusive governance and peacebuilding—ensuring that women and other marginalized sectors have a stronger voice in shaping peaceful, resilient communities.

The training was conducted under the Tanggol Kababaihan Action of Balay Mindanaw as part of the consortium with Relief International and the Coalition for Bicol Development (CBD), with funding support from the European Union.

Together, we're not just talking about change- we're building it.

Balay Mindanaw is honored to receive a plaque of appreciation from Mayor Doc Boy Layno of Local Government Unit of Lianga, in appreciation of our support and commitment as a member of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC).

The recognition was conferred during the observance of National Disaster Resilience Month. Representing Balay Mindanaw at the ceremony was Caraga Area Manager Arnel Neri.

We remain committed to working with our partners in building safer, more resilient, and disaster-ready communities.
