Peace is stronger when women lead. 💜

For three inspiring days (July 28–30, 2026), leaders and changemakers from the LGU Bukidnon, City Government of Valencia, Bukidnon, and Cagayan de Oro City Information Office, together with Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) officers from the Bukidnon Police Provincial Office, PNP Valencia City Police Station, and PNP Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, as well as media partners, partner Barangay LGUs, and civil society organizations, came together to turn the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda into action through the Bridging Leadership Master Trainers Training.

Together, participants strengthened their knowledge, built meaningful partnerships, and deepened their commitment to advancing inclusive governance and peacebuilding—ensuring that women and other marginalized sectors have a stronger voice in shaping peaceful, resilient communities.

The training was conducted under the Tanggol Kababaihan Action of Balay Mindanaw as part of the consortium with Relief International and the Coalition for Bicol Development (CBD), with funding support from the European Union.

Balay Mindanaw is honored to receive a plaque of appreciation from Mayor Doc Boy Layno of Local Government Unit of Lianga, in appreciation of our support and commitment as a member of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC).

The recognition was conferred during the observance of National Disaster Resilience Month. Representing Balay Mindanaw at the ceremony was Caraga Area Manager Arnel Neri.

Stories have the power to inform, inspire, and move communities toward meaningful action.

Workshop 2 of Project BALUD: Stories that Move marks another milestone in the learning journey of journalists and storytellers from Caraga as they strengthen their skills in constructive and impactful climate reporting.

Our sincere thanks to Bea Cupin of Rappler for sharing her technical expertise, creative approaches, and practical experiences. Her insights challenged participants to think critically, tell stories with greater purpose, and amplify voices that matter.

With the workshops now complete, participants move into the next phase of the program, which is developing and producing stories through the Project BALUD Story Grants.

Recovery is strongest when communities help one another.

We are loading another batch of much-needed hygiene kits and shelter repair kits for families affected by the June 8 earthquake in Davao Occidental. While recovery is underway, frequent strong aftershocks and recent heavy rains and flooding continue to challenge communities rebuilding their lives.

At Balay Mindanaw, we believe that resilience grows through solidarity. Everyone is a resource for rebuilding.

Two weeks have passed since the June 8 earthquake, but for many families in Davao Occidental and Sarangani, the journey to recovery is only beginning.

As immediate concerns give way to longer-term challenges, needs and risks continue to evolve. Damaged homes, disrupted livelihoods, and the stress of uncertainty remain part of daily life for many affected communities.

Balay Mindanaw is working closely with local government units, community leaders, and affected families to support recovery efforts and help communities rebuild their lives. Together with our partners, ピースボート災害支援センター PBV / Peace Boat Disaster Relief, People in Need Philippines and Misereor, we continue listening, assessing, and responding alongside the people of Davao Occidental.

A school is more than its buildings.

At Fishing Village Comprehensive National High School in Malita, the earthquake left classrooms damaged and two structures on the verge of collapse. Yet amid the cracks and uncertainty, we met teachers whose first concern was simple: How do we make sure our students can keep learning safely?

The June 8 earthquake damaged multiple schools across Davao Occidental, disrupting classes and exposing thousands of students to a traumatic experience just as the new school year was beginning.

Their warmth, dedication, and commitment remind us that education continues because of people who choose to show up, even in difficult times.

Together with the faculty and barangay leaders, Balay Mindanaw conducted a risk and needs assessment and delivered tarpaulins that will help create temporary learning spaces for the high school and the local kindergarten. Hygiene kits were also provided to support the teachers who continue to care for their students and community.

We are honored to stand with educators and local leaders who are rebuilding not just classrooms, but hope for the next generation.
