This Pride Month, Balay Mindanaw reaffirms its commitment to peace, human dignity, and social justice for all. We stand in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ communities and recognize that lasting peace can only be achieved when every individual is respected, valued, and free from discrimination and exclusion. As we continue to build inclusive and resilient communities, we celebrate diversity and uphold the rights of all people to live with dignity, safety, and PRIDE. 🏳️‍🌈

TRAUMA-INFORMED INTERVENTIONS: Integrating MHPSS in Lupon ng Barangay Services of Brgy. Canitoan in Cagayan de Oro City

📍 May 27–29, 2026 | Training of Trainers on MHPSS

Stronger communities begin with caring and capable frontline leaders. 🫶🏼

Through the Training of Trainers on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), the Lupon Tagapamayapa and Barangay Health Workers of Barangay Canitoan Official strengthened their skills in Psychological First Aid, emotional intelligence, and trauma-informed care.

Organized by Balay Mindanaw and supported by Misereor, this initiative empowers local leaders to extend compassionate support and promote a culture of care in their communities.

Together, we continue building resilient, peaceful, and mentally healthy communities—one conversation, one family, and one barangay at a time. ✨

Balay Mindanaw’s Executive Director Karlos Manlupig had the privilege of facilitating the Tech for Peace (TfP) course at the 2026 Annual Peacebuilding Training of the Mindanao Peacebuilding Institute.

Tech for Peace transforms data into insights, insights into stories, and stories into action. In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, these tools and approaches are becoming increasingly vital in advancing peacebuilding efforts and amplifying voices for positive change.

Balay Mindanaw remains committed to exploring, adapting, and harnessing emerging technologies and complex new spaces to strengthen peacebuilding, foster collaboration, and create lasting impact in our communities.

⏪ Last week, Bianca Pabotoy, Media and Communications Coordinator of Balay Mindanaw, was in Bangkok 🇹🇭 to speak at the "Climate Disinformation and its Impacts on IPs in Asia" regional dialogue organized by the Asia Centre and the IMS (International Media Support).

Balay Mindanaw's decades-long experience working directly with local communities and local media was front and center in the community roundtable on Local Voices and Public Engagement.

Balay Mindanaw is a proud partner of International Media Support, fostering local media partnerships and providing training on fact-checking and constructive reporting in the region. 🤝

So proud of our very own Arnel Neri and BJ Quimpan for representing Balay Mindanaw at the Forging Ties Between Research, Practice, and Advocacy workshop on May 7-8, 2026 in Iligan City.

Data and research are the backbone of our work, ensuring that our efforts are not just well-intentioned, but also grounded in the lived realities and evidence-based needs of the communities we journey with. TBH, consistently pursuing research as practitioners is difficult but we’re trying our best. 😅

Big thanks to Mindanao State University-IIT and Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies for having us. 🫶🏼

Balay Mindanaw 30th Anniversary Statement
May 8, 2026

For three decades, Balay Mindanaw has been part of a shared journey of walking alongside communities across the Philippines in moments of challenge, transition, and hope. We celebrate our 30th anniversary with the theme: “Our journey. Our commitment. Our future.”

This work has always been shaped by many hands and voices, including community leaders, partners, donors, colleagues, and volunteers, each helping build a shared path grounded in trust, dialogue, and solidarity. At its core, our story is not defined by a single milestone, but by relationships strengthened, trust restored, and communities choosing dialogue over division and hope over fear.

Today, the Philippines faces complex realities: fragile peace in some areas, climate vulnerabilities, economic uncertainty, corruption issues, disinformation, and deepening polarization. Rising tensions in the West Philippine Sea add to regional insecurity, underscoring the need for dialogue, diplomacy, and respect for international law.

Globally, conflicts, crises, and divisions continue to affect millions, which makes peacebuilding more urgent as a long-term commitment to dignity, inclusion, and justice.

Rooted in Mindanao, we have always understood that local journeys carry global meaning. The lessons learned in our communities reflect shared struggles, aspirations, and possibilities across the Philippines and beyond.

As we move forward, Balay Mindanaw remains guided by PRIMe: Peacebuilding, Resilience and humanitarian action, Inclusive development, and constructive and conflict-sensitive Media.

The world can feel heavy but that is precisely why this work matters more. The future will be shaped by those who choose courage over fear, solidarity over indifference, and action over silence.

Three decades deep. Still building. Still believing.

Happy 30th anniversary Balay Mindanaw!

Signed,

Karlos Manlupig
