We are pleased to be able to announce the completion of the Ridge to Coast, Rain to Tap (R2CR2T) project, culminating in a series of final evaluation workshops. This milestone marks the end of a collaborative journey to strengthen water security and flood resilience in the Cagayan de Oro River Basin.
The project was conceived in response to the floods of 2011 and 2017, that devastated Cagayan de Oro City. Over the years, we have given effort to implement a comprehensive source-to-tap approach, targeting:
β’ Watershed protection through pilot-scale reforestation and sustainable agriculture,
β’ Technical and institutional strengthening of the Cagayan de Oro River Basin Management Council (CDORBMC) and Cagayan de Oro City Water District (COWD),
β’ Enhanced resilience of public water supply infrastructure against flooding,
β’ Increased access to public water supply in resettlement areas, and
β’ Strengthening of community-level flood preparedness measures.
Our collaborative achievements represent the combined efforts of eight formal partner organizations: VEI B.V., Cagayan de Oro City Water District (COWD), Wetlands International (WI), Unifrutti Tropical Philippines Inc. β Mt. Kitanglad Agri-ventures Inc. (UTPI-MKAVI), Hineleban Foundation Inc. (HFI), FRRL Industrial Trading Company (FITC), The Netherlands Red Cross (NLRC), and Philippine Red Cross (PRC). Thanks is also extended to the Cagayan de Oro River Basin Management Council (CDORBMC) for its close cooperation with the project.
The final evaluation workshops brought together project partners and stakeholders across three strategic sessions:
β’ Work Package 2, reduced risk of flooding through integrated river basin management, March 18, 2025,
β’ Work Package 3, climate resilient and improved management of water supply infrastructure, March 13, 2025, and
β’ Work Package 4, improved water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions in flood resettlement areas, March 14, 2025.
On behalf of our partnership, we like to extend warmest thanks to all those who have been involved in the projectβs endeavors. After years of dedicated collaboration, we may celebrate the completion of the Ridge to Coast, Rain to Tap project.
