Through ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฃ๐ž๐œ๐ญ ๐€๐ฆ๐ข๐ค, we empower women by providing practical skills that can open doors to sustainable livelihood opportunities. Our Club Service Director, Henzieh Gabriel Fernandez Nagac, taught the women of Barangay Patag how to create bags using tarpaulin and other environmentally sustainable materials, giving them the opportunity to learn, create, and turn their skills into something useful and potentially income-generating.

Several participants also put their newfound skills into practice by creating their own bagsโ€”turning learning into something they can carry forward.

Empowerment begins with opportunity. By sharing skills and creating pathways to sustainable livelihood, Project Amik helps women discover their potential, strengthen their confidence, and take steps toward a more empowered future.

The Rotaract Club of Kalayaan CDO held Project SPEAK (Strengthening Proficiency in English and Communication Knowledge) + Project IMPACT (Images that Mobilize, Promote Action, Communicate, and Tell) last September 26, 2026, at the Provincial Capitol Unity Hall.

Designed as part of our Member Development Program, the activity gave our Rotaractors an opportunity to sharpen their communication skills while exploring their creativity. The session began with a review of grammar, punctuation, and reading comprehension, followed by a workshop on creative writing and the use of descriptive words and adjectives. The session was facilitated by Rotaractor Maia Fortich-Poblete, a content writer and editor by profession, who guided participants through practical and engaging activities.

The learning continued through an oral storytelling activity, where Rotaractors put their communication skills into practice. They were then divided into two groups and challenged to create a creative collage answering two questions: โ€œWhat is Rotaract?โ€ and โ€œWhat does being a Rotaractor mean?โ€ Through words, images, and ideas, each group found its own way to express what Rotaract means to themโ€”and what it means to live out the spirit of service.

Of course, learning is always more fun with a little friendly competition! ๐ŸŽ‰ A special prize was given to the participant who scored highest in the grammar, punctuation, and reading comprehension quiz. Our early birds also went home with special prizes, made possible through the generosity of Rotaractor Kevin Eduard, who sponsored the prizes. Thank you for helping make the activity even more exciting!

We hope Project SPEAK + Project IMPACT is only the beginning of a series of learning opportunities designed to help our members develop new skills, build confidence, and discover their own strengths. Because investing in our Rotaractors means investing in the future of our club and the communities we serve.

Led by Project Chair Henzieh Gabriel Fernandez Nagac, participants were introduced to the art of creating bags using tarpaulin and other environmentally sustainable materials. Several participants also had the opportunity to create their own bags from tarpaulins, putting their newfound skills into practice.

It was an afternoon filled with learning, creativity, and a little bit of fun - but behind every stitch was something bigger: the hope of opening doors to sustainable livelihood opportunities for women.

Because sometimes, a simple piece of tarpaulin can become more than a bagโ€”it can become a skill, an opportunity, and a step toward a brighter tomorrow.
