📍In Pangantucan, voices from communities, schools, IP leaders, government agencies, and partners came together to talk about a shared reality: despite being rich in agricultural resources, malnutrition remains a challenge we cannot ignore.
Through the consultation on Promoting Community Gardening Towards Enhancing Food Security and Agrobiodiversity happened last March 18 at Pangantucan Community High School, stories and insights grounded us, reminding us that solutions are already within reach. From Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices (IKSPs), to school gardens, to family-led initiatives, one message stood clear: food security starts at home, in our backyards, and in our communities.
📣 “Tanom namo, pagkaon namo.” This principle continues to guide the way forward where growing food is not just an activity, but a shared responsibility for raising a healthier generation.
🤝 The consultation also surfaced an urgent call: stronger collaboration, better alignment of programs, and collective action among LGUs, schools, CSOs, and communities. Because addressing malnutrition is not a one-sector effort—it takes all of us working together.
As we move forward, the hope is simple but powerful: that Pangantucan can become a model of how communities, rooted in culture and knowledge, can reclaim food systems that nourish both people and the land.
The consultation was organized and led by the Xavier Science Foundation, Inc., with support from the National Land Coalition PH, Pangantucan Community High School - PCHS, and the Nagkahiusang Manobong Manununod sa Yutang Kabilin, Inc.
