𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐏𝐂𝐈𝐄𝐄𝐑𝐃 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞

Four (4) NORMINCIEERD focal persons actively participated in the 2026 PCIEERD National Consortia Workshop and General Assembly Meeting on August 26–27, 2026, in Iloilo City, under the theme “Connecting Regions, Advancing Innovation."

On Day 1, DOST Undersecretary Sancho A. Mabborang and Assistant Secretary Maria Teresa B. De Guzman shared national directions for strengthening regional R&D leadership and capacity through the Elevate PH Program and initiatives.

Day 2 shifted to regional alignment and strategy, with S&T Fellows facilitating workshops to assess regional capabilities, identify development gaps, and define areas where further R&D support is needed.

More importantly for our researchers and partner institutions, the workshop helped identify regional capabilities, development gaps, and priority areas that will inform the 2027 DOST-PCIEERD Call for Proposals.

Among the emerging technology areas discussed were:

🔹 Semiconductors
🔹 Synthetic Biology
🔹 Marine and Maritime Technologies
🔹 Quantum Computing
🔹 Nuclear Science

The participation of NORMINCIEERD helps ensure that the needs, strengths, and opportunities of Northern Mindanao are represented as national R&D priorities and future funding directions are developed. The representatives include:

DOST-PCIEERD and USTP officially opened the Built Environment Laboratory (BEL) in Cagayan de Oro City—the first DOST-PCIEERD-funded laboratory in the country dedicated to creating smarter ways to keep buildings cooler, more comfortable, and more energy-efficient.

Armed with advanced technologies for air quality testing, thermal imaging, ventilation measurement, and building simulation, BEL will support research on indoor environment quality, building decarbonization and life cycle, facade and integrated systems, HVAC control systems, and human behavior on the spaces they use every day.

As the climate heats up and energy costs continue to rise, BEL is helping pave the way for buildings that work with the environment, not against it.

Because beating the heat starts long before you switch on the aircon. 💡🌿

During the Harmonized Full-Blown Proposal Development Writeshop (May 12–13, 2026), Dir. Mark Lemuel Garcia, the newly appointed DOST Northern Mindanao Regional Director, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustaining and strengthening initiatives that advance the region’s research, development, and innovation ecosystem.
