Mags on the Catwalk 2026 returned on September 26 at SM Downtown Premier, bringing fashion, fellowship, and fundraising together in support of the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban.

A special highlight was 𝐷𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑡 𝐺𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑜𝑟 𝑀𝑎𝑢𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝐶𝑎𝑐𝑎𝑏𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑠, who confidently walked the runway in behalf of Rotary, cheered on by our Rotarians in the audience! 👏

Congratulations to Pres. Karina May Olavides and Dir. Pam Salon, who took the lead as Chair in behalf of RCEU, and to PP Mags for another successful edition of Mags on the Catwalk and her continuing collaboration with RCEU’s Public Image efforts.
Thank you to our members who walked, had family members walk, and supported the fundraiser by sponsoring and purchasing dresses. Your support keeps both the runway and our service projects moving. ✨

A MEANINGFUL GOVERNOR’S VISIT AT RCEU 💙💛

The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban warmly welcomed District Governor Maureen Cacabelos for her Governor’s Visit on September 25, 2026.

The visit began with an Officers’ Meeting, where each committee chairperson presented updates and accomplishments from their respective committees. This was followed by the program proper, where Pres. Karina May Olavides presented the club’s complete report for the Governor’s review.

Governor Maureen expressed her appreciation for the work presented and thanked RCEU for demonstrating what can be achieved through committed service and teamwork. Pres. Karina then officially handed over the printed club report to the Governor.

The evening also included a meaningful show of support for Rotary’s work. PP Bebie Go made a donation to the club’s project fund, while a US$1,000 donation was made to The Rotary Foundation’s PolioPlus Fund. This was the first single US$1,000 PolioPlus donation received in the district this Rotary Year, making the contribution especially significant as Rotary continues its fight to end polio.

The formal program gave way to a lighter evening with a special talent presentation by PAG and District Polio Coordinator Lady Linda Caragos, who shared her beautiful Ikebana arrangement. She was assisted by another Ikebana member and enthusiast, PP Christy Jugador; Asst. Sec. Sam Booc then led the club in singing, with members joining in and eventually turning the evening into singing, dancing, laughter, and great fellowship. We thank VP Su Macapayag for being the official emcee for the night!

As we look back on the Governor’s Visit, we also congratulate every committee chairperson and officer for their commitment and for fulfilling their respective roles with dedication. To all our members, thank you for your continued support, participation, and commitment to Rotary’s mission of serving our community.

The work we presented to our Governor is a reflection of what we accomplish together.

🔧 PROJECT GEAR: SKILLS TODAY, EMPLOYMENT TOMORROW

The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban launched Project GEAR (Gainful Employment in Automotive Repair), a livelihood initiative that will equip 25 out-of-school youth, unemployed individuals, rebel returnees, and single parents with practical automotive repair and maintenance skills.

The beneficiaries were selected from communities where employment opportunities are limited, with Dansolihon chosen as the project site because of the number of out-of-school youth and unemployed individuals in the area. Automotive repair was chosen because skilled technicians and mechanics are in demand, giving the trainees a practical pathway toward employment and livelihood.

Project Chair Rtn. Joy Co personally sponsored the training for the 25 beneficiaries and partnered with 1 And All Technical School to make the skills training possible. We also thank RCEU for providing the budget for the project launch and the tools that will be given to the trainees as they begin putting their new skills into practice.

Thank you, Rtn. Joy, for personally investing in this project and making this contribution to our club’s service to the community. 💙💛

The project is supported by Service Projects Chair PP Bing Dacudao and led by Pres. Karina May Olavides.

The launch was made even more special by the presence of District Governor Maureen Cacabelos, Chief of Staff Bernard Sero, and AG Victor of the Rotary Club of Midsayap.

Also present to support the project were IPP Steph, Sec. Nene, PP Bebotte, VP Su, Rtn. Rachel, and Asst. Sec. Sam.

Project GEAR is an investment in practical skills and new possibilities for people looking for a path toward employment and livelihood.

We are grateful to Mindanao Gold Star for being our media partner and for giving our project a place in your pages.

Our article highlights the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban’s annual advocacy for women’s health and wellness, including our free breast and cervical cancer screening initiative with our medical partners.

For a community project, being able to share the story beyond the people who were directly involved matters. It helps spread the message that early detection saves lives and reminds more women to make time for their own health.

A warm RCEU welcome to our assigned Assistant Governor Doy Ramiro of the Rotary Club of Kalayaan, who joined us for our Club Assembly as we prepare for the upcoming Governor’s Visit.

Welcoming AG Doy is PP Ella Yu, who shares a special connection with him and with our daughter club, Rotary Club of Kalayaan, which RCEU helped establish.

AG Doy’s visit gave us an opportunity to come together, review our preparations, and receive guidance as we get ready to welcome our District Governor.

From one club to another, and from mother club to daughter club, we are grateful for the continuing friendship and fellowship that bind us together in Rotary. 💙💛

GMM | SEPTEMBER 17, 2026

Another meaningful evening of fellowship, learning, and preparing for the work ahead.

One of the evening’s highlights and priority topics was Pres. Karina May Olavides’ presentation of the club report for the upcoming Governor’s Visit on September 25, 2026.

Our Special Guest, Assistant Governor Doy Ramiro, reviewed the report and expressed his appreciation for the presentation, with no corrections or concerns raised. A positive note as the club prepares to welcome the Governor for the upcoming visit.

Another highlight was PAG Linda Caragos’ beautiful retelling of Rotary’s fight against polio, making the story relatable to every Rotarian present and reminding us of the long journey behind the global effort to eradicate polio.

The evening also featured the first Classification Talk of the Rotary Year, delivered by Treasurer Wen Raflores, AVP for Loans at BDO. She shared insights from her profession and her personal Rotary journey, including how being part of Rotary has helped her create a meaningful balance between work, family, and community service.

A GMM filled with reports, preparation, stories, and reflections on why we continue to serve. 💙💛
