We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible organizers, partners, and hosts who made this mangrove tree planting participation truly meaningful. Thank you for welcoming us and allowing us to bring the 𝗕𝗔𝗞𝗛𝗔𝗢𝗡𝗘 movement to life in the coastal communities of Kinoguitan! 🍃

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗜𝗢𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗖 𝗦𝗢𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗧𝗬 𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦 𝗕𝗔𝗞𝗛𝗔𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗝𝗥𝗦’ 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗝𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘 🌱

𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗢𝗚𝗨𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗡, 𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗦 𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗟—April 9 became a meaningful day of service as the Xavier University Biophilic Society commemorated the Day of Valor through a collaborative mangrove tree-planting initiative. In partnership with the 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗴𝗲𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 (𝗝𝗥𝗦) – 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀/𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿) and the 𝗫𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗰𝗞𝗲𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 (𝗠𝗔𝗘𝗥𝗦) 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿, the activity was held along the coastal areas of Barangay Buko, Kinoguitan, Misamis Oriental.

Anchored in its environmental advocacies, the organization introduced its 𝗕𝗔𝗞𝗛𝗔𝗢𝗡𝗘 branding as a movement that amplifies its commitment to coastal conservation and community empowerment in Macajalar Bay. Complementing the 𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗪 coastal cleanup efforts led by the 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 (𝗕𝗖𝗠𝗦) office, BAKHAONE reflects a unified call to action in safeguarding marine ecosystems. This collaboration with JRS’ 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘 marks a significant milestone that aligns with a shared mission of stewardship and responsibility toward our common home.

The activity brought together a diverse group of participants, including the 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗴𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻 and 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗴, the 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗴 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲, 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 of 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝗸𝗼, and 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 from the 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗴𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻 and the 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿 of 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻. Collectively, the participants successfully planted approximately 𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀, consisting of both propagules and saplings. The species planted included 𝙗𝙖𝙠𝙝𝙖𝙬 𝙡𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙠𝙞 (𝑅ℎ𝑖𝑧𝑜𝑝ℎ𝑜𝑟𝑎 𝑎𝑝𝑖𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑎), 𝙥𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙥𝙖𝙩 (𝑆𝑜𝑛𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑎 𝑎𝑙𝑏𝑎), and 𝙥𝙞𝙖𝙥𝙞 (𝐴𝑣𝑖𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑛𝑖𝑎 𝑟𝑢𝑚𝑝ℎ𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑎), observing zonation protocols that are all vital to coastal protection and biodiversity.

JRS’ Project CARE continues to serve as a platform for fostering shared responsibility in environmental protection and restoration. Through initiatives like this, it encourages communities and partner organizations to take an active role in addressing ecological challenges.

In line with the Biophilic Society–BCMS mission of empowering coastal communities, the activity contributed to environmental restoration as well as deepened students’ understanding of mangrove ecosystems and their critical role in climate resilience.

Across four relentless days, BiOlympics ‘26 pushed every tribute beyond their limits where every game became a test, and every moment, a fight for legacy.
