📣 Youth voices are rising, and their truths are shaping real online safety.

Through Xavier Science Foundation’s KKKK Project, working together with ChildFund Philippines and ChildFund Australia, and in partnership with DepEd City Division and the Cagayan de Oro Child Protection Council, young leaders in CDO spoke openly about the risks they face online and how these affect their daily lives during the Advocacy and Campaigns Training Workshop held on February 16–17, 2026 in Cagayan de Oro City.

Their insights are now guiding how for Mindanao tackles issues like OSAEC/CSAEM, cyberbullying, media literacy gaps, psychosocial harm, and privacy breaches, turning lived experiences into concrete action.

Together with our partners, we’re backing a movement where young people lead the push for safer digital spaces and claim their role in shaping the online world they deserve.

🤔 Kids are spending more time online than ever, so how do we keep them safe?
🤝 With support from ChildFund Philippines and ChildFund Australia, Xavier Science Foundation’s KKKK Project, in partnership with the Department of Education - Division of Cagayan de Oro City and the City CDO City Council for the Protection of Children, brought youth leaders together in Cagayan de Oro City to help strengthen the Swipe Safe app, a tool that guides children and young people on digital safety, privacy, and responsible online behavior.
Originally developed by ChildFund Australia, youth leaders worked together to make the Swipe Safe app relatable and useful for Filipino children. Their insights are helping ensure the app speaks to real online challenges faced by young people in Mindanao and across the country.
This collaboration moves us closer to a safer, more child‑friendly digital world, one where kids can navigate online spaces with greater confidence and protection.

Xavier Science Foundation, Inc. -KKKK project, with support from ChildFund Philippines, gave an orientation on Digital Parenting to parents and caregivers of Grade 7-12 learners of Mambuaya National High School and Kinder to Grade 6 of Pagatpat Elementary School, this city. An orientation and conversation with Grade 9 students from Pagatpat National High School on Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) capped the day long activities supporting the 33rd National Children's Month Celebration. These activities are in partnership with Mambuaya NHS, Pagatpat Edukasan project and Bcpc Pagatpat.

This recognition comes after the city successfully passed the 2023 Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit.

The Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance is an annual initiative of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, in partnership with the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC). It reinforces local accountability in creating safe, nurturing, and empowering communities for every Filipino child — a commitment that Cagayan de Oro continues to uphold through the City Council for the Protection of Children, personally led by Mayor Klarex Uy.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦: 𝗣𝗘𝗘𝗥 𝗘𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗦' 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚

Xavier Science Foundation, Inc. in partnership with ChildFund Philippines and in collaboration with the Cagayan de Oro Teen Center - Community Improvement Division and Department of Education - Division of Cagayan de Oro City successfully concluded the Peer Educators' Training on October 3-5, 2025 at the Diocesan Christian Education and Nurture Center (DCENT), Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City.
Peer educators along with their school based teen center coordinators from 8 partner schools joined the training. These are Bayanga National High School (NHS), Dansolihon NHS, Mambuaya NHS, Pagatpat NHS, Tumpagon NHS, Midkiwan Integrated School (IS), Iba IS and Balongkot IS.

The training provided the peers information and skills on helping fellow peers and positively influence them, especially when it comes to sensitive topics such as sexuality, reproductive health, mental health, HIV AIDS and relationships. The training capped with participants showcasing their skills as peer educators in a return demonstration session.

This youth-to-youth approach of peer education will further enhance the delivery of adolescent friendly health services in schools and their communities.

To culminate the 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, a 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘶𝘮 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 1000 𝘋𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘎𝘐𝘋𝘈-𝘐𝘗𝘴 (𝘎𝘦𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘐𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘥 𝘈𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴 – 𝘐𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘗𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘴) beneficiaries was held on September 2, 2025 at the covered court of Barangay Dansolihon, Cagayan de Oro City.

The activity gathered around 80 lactating mothers from Barangays Tignapoloan, Dansolihon, Mambuaya, and Bayanga. The forum featured discussions on:

✅ The importance of the First 1,000 Days of Life
✅ Good dental hygiene practices
✅ Home gardening as a key strategy for food and nutrition security

The event was spearheaded by the City Health Office– City Nutrition Committee - Cagayan de Oro City and the Gender and Development Office, in partnership with the Xavier Science Foundation, Inc., Inc. with support from ChildFund Philippines, which provided breastfeeding hygiene kits to all participants.

Additionally, participants received rice packs, dental kits, vegetable seedlings, and milk drinks, courtesy of Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez, the City Social Welfare Division, the Agriculture Productivity Office, and Yakult.

The month of August marks an important time in global health awareness — 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵. It is a campaign that reminds us that breastfeeding is not only a personal act but a shared responsibility — a commitment we all make for the health and future of our children.

In support of this advocacy, Xavier Science Foundation, Inc. (XSF), in partnership with ChildFund Philippines, proudly joined the 𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗯 𝘀𝗮 𝗢𝗿𝗼 — the highlight event of Breastfeeding Awareness Month — held on August 26, 2025, at the Deluxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

This year’s theme, “𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀,” underscores the vital importance of strong and consistent support networks for breastfeeding mothers. These systems include proper nourishment, adequate rest, emotional care, and enabling environments in homes, workplaces, and communities — all of which contribute to giving children the best possible start in life and supporting lifelong health.

The event was a collaborative effort involving the City Health Office Cagayan de Oro, City Nutrition Committee - Cagayan de Oro City, the Department of Health – Center for Health Development Northern Mindanao (DOH CHD-NM), the CDO IYCF Breastfeeding Task Force, and other committed partners from both the public and private sectors.

As part of its support, XSF distributed breastfeeding and hygiene kits to all participating mothers — a small gesture of care with a big impact.

One of the most symbolic moments of the event was the simultaneous latch-on, a powerful visual and emotional act that reflects the community’s united commitment to nurture Cagayan de Oro’s youngest citizens. It served as a call to action, reminding everyone that each member of the community has a role in building a supportive ecosystem — where every mother is empowered to breastfeed confidently and every child is given the opportunity to thrive.
