The Barangay Education Council of Luyong Bonbon celebrates the successful passage of key resolutions establishing the Barangay Education Council, Zonal Reading Nooks, and an Integrated Livelihood and Fund-Raising Program—strengthening our shared commitment to community-driven education and sustainable development.

We express our sincere gratitude to Higala sa Pagbasa for providing technical assistance in the organization of the Barangay Education Council, building on their successful pilot implementation in Barangay Patag, Opol.

Higala sa Pagbasa met with the Luyong Bonbon Barangay Council to explore areas for collaboration in expanding reading and other education programs in the community. We look forward to working together to support learners in Luyong Bonbon.

📚✨ 𝐑𝐢𝐛𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲 – 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨-𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐥𝐨𝐤 𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐨! ✨📚

On March 13, we will hold the ribbon cutting of the first 𝐒𝐮𝐥𝐨𝐤 𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐨 (Sitio Reading Corner) in Zone 7, Sitio Camagun, Barangay Patag, Opol, Misamis Oriental. This a small space in the zonal meeting place with a big goal of bringing books closer to our kids.

This is just the first of several Sulok ng Talino we hope to establish across Barangay Patag. Three others are ready for set up for:
📍Sitio Camingawan
📍Sitio Danao
📍Zone 5

These corners will also serve as venues for our Summer Reading Programs this April.

Our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Agnes Bontong, Ms. Juliet Abad, and Mr. Jestoni Baldo, who generously sponsored the shelves and whiteboards for the first four reading corners. 💙📖

We are still open for partnerships as we continue to create more reading spaces for children in our community.

The Sulok ng Talino (Reading Corner), a project of the Barangay Education Council - Patag, Opol, Misamis Oriental supported by Higala sa Pagbasa, aims to make books more accessible to sitios and households in Barangay Patag.

We thank the Devries of Bridge of Kindness (formerly Bodega sa Grasya) for the newest additions to the growing collection of books for all ages for the upcoming Sulok ng Talino.

Ms. Richelle M. Villasor, RPm, LPT, is one of the pillars of Higala sa Pagbasa who, despite her return to her hometown in NCR after her 2-year deployment in PONROSES, has remained very active in our humble community engagement project.

She is currently Higala sa Pagbasa project team’s Instructional Coaching Lead.

The Higala sa Pagbasa is looking for education advocates within Canitoan, Cagayan de Oro City & nearby areas, who are interested in volunteering their time and expertise to teach reading to learners of Pedro “Oloy” N. Roa Sr. Elementary School, who are lagging behind in this very valuable & foundational skill.
