More than 1,000 lawyers from across the Philippines are expected in Cagayan de Oro for the inaugural IBP National Games on Oct. 8–11, bringing the legal community together for four days of sports and fellowship.

Hosted by the IBP Misamis Oriental Chapter, the games will feature basketball, volleyball, football, golf, bowling, chess, tennis, badminton and pickleball, while showcasing CDO and Misamis Oriental as hosts of a major national event.

On September 18, 2026, The Integrated Bar of the Philippines – Misamis Oriental Chapter brought its Tambag Legal Caravan to Barangay Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City, conducting an orientation and training for additional 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 from five barangays in the city.

Around 100 barangay officials and community volunteers from Barangays Gusa, Lapasan, Camaman-an, Bayabas, and Patag participated in the activity, further strengthening our shared commitment to making basic legal assistance and access to justice more readily available within our communities.

Held under the IBP Misamis Oriental Chapter’s TLC Program, the activity brought together the legal profession and our barangay stakeholders in advancing community-based access to justice and strengthening the Katarungang Pambarangay system at the grassroots.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Gusa Punong Barangay and Liga ng mga Barangay – Cagayan de Oro City President Kapitan Marlo Tabac; Lapasan Punong Barangay Julito Ogsimer; Camaman-an Punong Barangay Carl Harrison “Kuya Bodie” D. Galarrita; Bayabas Punong Barangay Rudy Lago; and Patag Punong Barangay Eric Abaday for their active leadership, invaluable support, and commitment to strengthening the Katarungang Pambarangay system and building the capacity of our community stakeholders.

Our sincere thanks as well to our speakers, Atty. Regine Niog, Atty. Nielgem Sabay Beja, and Atty. Ernesto B. Neri, Chairperson of the Chapter Committee on Access to Justice, for generously sharing their time, knowledge, and experience with our Barangay Legal First Aiders.

Most importantly, we thank all our participants from the five barangays for showing up, actively engaging, and embracing their important role in bringing access to justice closer to their respective communities.

More than an orientation, this activity brings the true essence of Katarungang Pambarangay into living reality: lawyers, barangay leaders, and community volunteers working together to build communities that are able and empowered to respond to the legal needs of our citizens.

Through partnership, capacity-building, and service, we bring justice closer to where it matters most: our communities.

ONE DAY. ONE NATIONWIDE EFFORT. THOUSANDS REACHED. ⚖️

𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐃𝐀𝐘. 𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐖𝐈𝐃𝐄 𝐄𝐅𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐓. 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐒𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐒 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃.

On August 27, 2026, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines mobilized 1,292 volunteer lawyers from IBP Chapters nationwide to provide legal assistance to 16,148 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in a synchronized jail decongestion initiative conducted across the country.

In partnership with the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), volunteer lawyers conducted legal consultations, reviewed and assessed cases, checked case status, assisted in the computation of Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA), and identified possible legal remedies and interventions for PDLs.

More than addressing jail congestion, the initiative brought legal assistance directly to those who need it and reaffirmed a fundamental principle of justice: deprivation of liberty does not mean deprivation of the right to due process, legal assistance, and access to justice.

The nationwide activity reflects the IBP’s continuing commitment to public service, the rule of law, and a justice system that is fair, accessible, timely, and inclusive.

Election Law & Governance: An Evening of Law and Conversation ⚖️

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines – Misamis Oriental Chapter, in partnership with the Development Center for Future Leaders, Inc. hosted “Election Law & Governance: An Evening of Law and Conversation” on September 3, 2026, at the Emerald Ballroom, Limketkai Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

The forum brought together members of the legal profession for a timely discussion on election law updates, electoral reforms, and the constitutional, legal, and governance implications of the postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

We were very privileged and honored to have the presence of our Guest Speaker, former COMELEC Commissioner and former COA Commissioner Atty. Rowena V. Guanzon, who shared her personal experience and perspectives on election law, governance, democratic institutions, and the important role lawyers play in safeguarding our electoral processes.

The evening was further enriched by our Resource Speaker Atty. Gina Luna Zayas-Sabio, Regional Election Attorney of COMELEC Region X, who delivered a very informative report on recent updates on election laws, providing participants with insights on the evolving legal landscape surrounding election-related developments.

We likewise thank our distinguished guests from COMELEC, Atty. Carlito L. Ravelo, Provincial Election Supervisor of Misamis Oriental, and Atty. Ramil P. Acol, Election Officer IV, Office of the Election Officer, 2nd District, Cagayan de Oro City, as well as Mr. Jose Mari G. Pelaez, President of CDFLI, for joining and supporting the activity.

Most of all, we thank our fellow lawyers who spent the evening with us. The strong participation reaffirms our collective commitment to promoting continuing legal education, informed public discourse, and meaningful engagement on matters of law and governance.
