Typhoon Maysak, the 10th typhoon of this year, brought massive moisture and battered mainland regions, triggering extreme torrential rains across Guangxi. Rainfall records were broken in numerous districts, while water levels of multiple local rivers surged sharply and exceeded warning thresholds one after another, resulting in widespread and devastating flooding.
This year’s flood disaster ranks as Guangxi’s most extensive, destructive and far-reaching calamity to date. Widespread flooding submerged towns and villages, inundating residents’ homes and cutting off transportation routes. Agriculture and aquaculture industries suffered catastrophic losses, leaving countless local people struggling to sustain their livelihoods. Rescue operations and post-disaster reconstruction in affected areas are extremely urgent.
