As an Education student, Chrystal found more than a community at Xavier University. It became a reminder that growth happens more freely in environments where people feel accepted, understood, and allowed to exist without hiding parts of themselves. Seeing others embrace authenticity created a quiet but meaningful realization that belonging does not require becoming someone else.

That environment shaped more than confidence. It nurtured compassion, strengthened understanding, and revealed that acceptance influences not only how people grow, but also how they show up for others. From those experiences came a deeper belief that belonging is not earned through change but built through spaces where people feel safe enough to become.

What began as something personal eventually became something larger. Being welcomed created a desire to extend that same sense of understanding to others, especially in places that shape future generations.

Maybe the most meaningful part of belonging is realizing that acceptance does not end with being received; it continues in what is given back.
What was once experienced through community becomes something carried into future classrooms, conversations, and spaces still waiting to become safer and kinder.

To Walk With Pride is to leave room for others to grow, belong, and become.

Bruxellesโ€™ experience at Xavier University reflects how growth is not always measured by achievement alone, but also by the ways people are allowed to exist, question, and become. University life became more than pursuing goals. It became a process of realizing that identity and purpose do not have to compete with each other.

Guided by the values of Cura Personalis (care for the whole person) and Magis (the desire to do more and be more in service of others), this journey became an invitation to grow beyond academics. It became a reminder that education is not only about becoming more capable, but also becoming more human. To care for the whole person means seeing individuals beyond labels and expectations, while striving for more means creating impact rooted in compassion, reflection, and purpose.

At the same time, this experience revealed the quiet pressure often placed on LGBTQIA+ individuals. Expectations can make people visible while leaving little room to simply exist. Behind assumptions of confidence, creativity, and strength are people who also get tired, struggle, reflect, and dream ordinary dreams that deserve the same understanding given to anyone else.

Belonging, then, became something different. Not fitting in. Not proving worth. Not becoming extraordinary to deserve acceptance. But being accepted first and growing from that place.

In many ways, this reflects what it means to Walk With Pride: moving with grace and purpose while allowing identity and aspiration to exist side by side.

Growth becomes most meaningful when people no longer feel they must choose between who they are and who they hope to become.

โ€œAnd if there is one thing my journey has taught me, it is this: the moment you stop hiding who you are is the moment you start becoming who you were meant to be."

A proud identity is never embarrassed. Its emblem is always authentic and purposeful, and for Bruxelles and Chrystal, their happiness is not bound by how people accept them but by how they present themselves beautifully.

You cannot hide something forever, and Binibining Bruxelles swears by that. โ€œI embrace every facet of who I am. I am loud and proud not because I have something to prove, but because for many years, people like us were told to stay quiet, hide, and become smaller just to fit in,โ€ said Bruxelles as she expressed the confidence she proudly carries. She believes that her identity is not something to apologize for, but something to embrace and celebrate.

While Bruxelles speaks of confidence and self-acceptance, Chrystalโ€™s story also carries the weight of personal challenges and growth. โ€œThere was a time when I questioned whether I would ever feel accepted for simply being me. Everything changed when I discovered the LGBTQIA+ community. It became a safe space where I found acceptance, understanding, and people who reminded me that I never had to change who I was to belong,โ€ said Chrystal, reflecting on the challenges she overcame while embodying a version that echoes growth and purpose.

Indeed, Pride is not just about waving a colorful flag once a year. As Binibing Bruxelles put it, it is about waking up every day and choosing to live honestly in a world that sometimes asks you to be someone else.

Chrystal and Binibing Bruxelles have stories that continue to shape them differently. These stories are not just bedtime stories, but stories of beauty, confidence, and intention. For them, it is never about how people see them, but who they are meant to be.
