🌾THE DEEPENING OF THE ROOT 🌾
Church family, as we continue to walk through the heavy and life-shifting revelations of "BRUTAL GRACE: The Paradox of the Thorn" from 2 Corinthians 12:8-9, I want to share a raw truth with you today.
When we are in a season of intense testing—whether it's a chronic limitation, an organizational setback, or an emotional trial—our immediate prayer is usually, "Lord, change my surroundings." We want the heat turned down. We want the soil of our lives to be perfectly comfortable. But Brutal Grace teaches us that God doesn't always change the weather; instead, He uses the drought to change our depth.
🌲The Lesson of the Great Drought:
A few years ago, a massive forest in the mountains experienced one of the most brutal, scorching droughts in its history. For months, there was no rain. The streams dried up, the grass withered, and the topsoil became like powder. From the outside, it looked like the entire forest was dying.
But when botanists came to study the trees after the drought ended, they discovered something absolutely mind-boggling. The trees hadn't died. Because there was no surface water available, their roots were forced to dig deeper than they ever had before—pushing past the dry dirt, shattering through underground rocks, until they tapped into deep, hidden, ancient water reservoirs that never dry up. The drought didn't kill the trees; it anchored them so deeply that no future storm could ever tip them over.
Your thorn is your spiritual drought. It is the very thing drying up your surface-level, human resources so that your spiritual roots are forced to dive deep into the unshakeable reservoir of God's presence. Comfort keeps us shallow, but Brutal Grace makes us unshakeable.
📖 Word for today:
"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit." — Jeremiah 17:7-8
💡 My prayer and reflection for you today:
"Do not despise the droughts and the thorns that dry up your earthly comforts. God is simply shutting off the shallow streams of your self-reliance so that your roots will finally grow deep enough to find His eternal sufficiency."
