Yesterday, November 21, 2025, The Road Construction and Safety Symposium organized by Association of Civil Engineering Students of Quirino State University – Cabarroguis Campus (ACES – QSU) held at RDET Hall 1 brought together engineering students to discuss the growing need for safer and more resilient infrastructure. With an emphasis on innovation and responsibility, the event highlighted the critical link between effective road construction practices and the safety of the communities they serve.

The symposium opened with a warm Welcome Remarks from BSCE Programchair, Engr. Marvin Ray G. Sanglay, emphasizing collaboration among agencies, contractors, and communities. He reminded participants that road development is a shared responsibility impacting mobility, economy, and public welfare, with safety essential at every stage.

Engr. Gladys Jane G. Corpuz, Officer-In-Charge Chief, Maintenance Section in Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Quirino – District Engineering Office, provided a comprehensive overview of modern road construction challenges and opportunities. She discussed emerging technologies in infrastructure design, such as advanced surveying tools, environmentally considerate materials, and smart-road systems that enhance long-term safety. Engr. Corpuz also highlighted the human element of construction work, stressing the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols to protect both workers and road users.

Her presentation encouraged participants to adopt forward-thinking approaches and to continuously improve safety standards. Throughout the symposium, attendees exchanged insights and practical strategies. Topics included accident-prevention measures, risk assessment methods, road-user behavior, and the integration of engineering solutions with community education. The event reinforced the notion that safe roadways require not only technical competence but also consistent public engagement and accountability.

In the closing remarks from ACES-QSU President, Marklord Vincent J. Acoba Jr. captured the key takeaways of the day, thanking participants for their commitment to safer road networks. He emphasized that the symposium’s discussions must translate into concrete action, encouraging all sectors to remain proactive in implementing safe construction practices and advocating for continuous training.

Overall, the symposium served as a meaningful platform for knowledge sharing and professional collaboration. By bringing together experts and public servants, the event strengthened the shared commitment to constructing safer, more reliable, and future-ready road systems.
