Nueva Ecija Backpackers & Mountaineers Community Inc. The NEBMCi would like to invite all Outdoor Enthusiasts out there to be part of our growing team. Do you want to try the splash of its rivers?

Are you challenging yourself of climbing the beautiful and unexplored mountains of Nueva Ecija? Do you want to volunteer to a feeding program, gift giving, tree planting, and medical mission to the remote areas of the province? Or try to dip on its unspoiled waterfalls? Or do you want to try to explore and discover the undiscovered wonders of the province? We’ll make it possible!! NEBMCI (Nueva Ecija Backpackers & Mountaineering Community Inc.) is an ECO-FRIENDLY and WILDLIFE EXPLORATION organization that aims to encourage a green and healthy environment. The Organization’s main objective is to encourage the conservation of our natural scenery, to foster hiking, trail construction and maintenance, fellowship, and enjoyment of the out-of-doors in Organization’s members, and to promote the majestic yet unexplored beauty of the province through ecotourism while protecting the same from any form of acts that threatens their natural wonders. It aims to lead the basic of outdoor and recreational consciousness. It is engaged in various outdoor activities such as tree planting, feeding program, gift giving, medical mission, mountain climbing, water tubing, spelunking, snorkeling, rappelling, kayaking, and others. Another Sad Day for the Mountaineering Community: Nims Purja Missing on Broad Peak

A massive avalanche struck a climbing team near Camp 2–3 (roughly 7,600m) on Broad Peak (8,047m) in Pakistan's Karakoram range on the morning of July 30, 2026, as they pushed toward the summit. Ten climbers were swept away, including Nirmal Purja. Rescue teams later located six additional climbers by drone, bringing to nine the number found or sighted more than 30 hours after the avalanche, though full identifications had not been released.
The bodies of Nepalese climber Pur Bahadur Gurung, Omani climber Nadhira Al Harthy, and American climber Mallory Geis have been recovered , while Purja himself remains among those still missing. Rescue efforts have been complicated because Pakistani operations rely mainly on the military rather than the rapid private helicopter response typical in Nepal, and poor weather grounded aircraft, forcing an initial ground search. His business partner said a tracking device Purja was carrying had continued to show movement.

Career at a glance

Nirmal "Nimsdai" Purja spent 16 years as a soldier, serving in the Brigade of Gurkhas and later Britain's elite Special Boat Service, before a 2012 trek to Everest Base Camp changed the course of his life. In 2019, he stunned the world by climbing all fourteen of Earth's 8,000-metre peaks in just six months and six days, a record that shattered previous expectations and inspired the Netflix documentary "14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible." In 2021, he helped complete the first-ever winter ascent of K2 alongside nine fellow Nepali climbers. By 2024, he'd pushed further still, becoming the fastest person to summit all fourteen 8,000ers without supplemental oxygen. Just this year, he linked Everest and Lhotse without oxygen in May, then summited Gasherbrum II on July 21 β€” his 57th oxygen-free ascent above 8,000 metres β€” as part of an ambitious bid to complete all fourteen peaks three times over.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined our Mt. Al-Al Weekday Hike via Ballay Trail.

Mt. Al-Al is a mountain located in Kabayan, Benguet, Philippines. In the local Kalanguya dialect, it translates to "old trees." The name honors the ancient white trees and the sprawling, moss-covered forests near the summit. Standing at approximately 2,658 meters (8,842 feet) above sea level, it is known for its mossy forests, rolling grasslands, and panoramic views of the Cordillera mountain range.

Although it is not among Luzon's highest peaks, Mt. Al-Al is appreciated for its peaceful trails, beautiful landscapes, and the rich cultural heritage of Kabayan, making it a rewarding climb for both beginners and experienced hikers.

To all our participants, local guides, and the Ballay community, thank you for making this adventure safe, enjoyable, and successful.

Meinard Joseph, 21 years old, is a 2nd Year BSBA Major in Economics student of NEUST Sumacab.

On December 5, 2025, while on his way home from school, he was involved in a tragic motorcycle accident that almost took his life.

He was admitted to the hospital and remained unconscious for 43 days. He suffered a severe brain injury and multiple fractures, requiring major surgeries to repair four broken bonesβ€”both legs, his right arm, and facial bones.

Meinard continues to undergo physical therapy to help him regain his strength and mobility. He remains in an unstable condition as doctors continue to monitor his recovery. He also needs eye surgery to prevent blindness in his left eye.

πŸ™ Through this climb, we hope to help ease the financial burden on Meinard and his family as they continue his treatment and recovery journey.

With hearts full of gratitude, we extend our sincerest thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers who made the NEBMCI Lapit@Papel Project 2026 a success.

This year, we had the privilege of serving the IP Community of Bogkalot-Ilongot and the students of Cawayan Elementary School. Reaching them meant braving long, exhausting hours on the rough mountain roads of the Sierra Madre, but every moment was worth it.

Through your unwavering support, we conducted a medical and dental mission and distributed school supplies to students from daycare to Grade 12. The warm smiles and heartfelt welcome from the locals eased our fatigue and reminded us why we continue this advocacy.

We may have arrived tired and sleep-deprived, but we left with our hearts full ❀️ full of gratitude, purpose, and renewed inspiration. This is the true essence of our motto: Turning Passion into Mission.
