The Caraga State University โ Cabadbaran Campus (CSUCC), through the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Energy and Power Research and Innovation Center (CEPRIC), conducted a coordination meeting with the Department of Education (DepEd) โ Las Nieves District on October 15, 2026, at Maningalao Elementary School, Barangay Maningalao, Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte. The meeting brought together school heads representing all 36 public schools in the district and CSUCC representatives to discuss the implementation of Project EEskwela and Project BantayEE, two community extension initiatives aimed at improving electrical safety and supporting the electrical infrastructure needs of public schools.
The coordination meeting served as a platform to establish collaborative arrangements, identify priority areas for technical assistance, and determine the activities to be undertaken under the two projects. A significant outcome of the discussion was the commitment of DepEd Las Nieves District to facilitate the assessment of electrical systems across all 36 public schools within its jurisdiction. These assessments will provide a basis for identifying electrical hazards, evaluating existing electrical installations, and determining appropriate technical interventions to help improve the safety and functionality of school facilities.
Project EEskwela, led by Engr. Blondie T. Sanchez, focuses on providing electrical wiring services and technical assistance to public schools. Through this initiative, CSUCC aims to extend its engineering expertise and technical manpower to help address identified electrical wiring concerns and support the improvement of electrical installations in participating schools. The planned assessments will serve as an essential step in determining the specific electrical needs of each school and prioritizing interventions based on the identified conditions.
Meanwhile, Project BantayEE, led by Engr. Melgie Rose C. Acero, focuses on strengthening electrical safety awareness and practices among school personnel. During the meeting, DepEd Las Nieves District also expressed its commitment to participate in a three-day training program covering electrical safety and related technical topics. The training is intended to enhance the knowledge and practical competencies of school personnel in identifying electrical hazards, understanding safe electrical practices, and promoting preventive measures within their respective school environments.
The meeting further identified the need to strengthen local partnerships to support the effective implementation and sustainability of both extension projects. As part of the agreed ways forward, subsequent coordination meetings with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Las Nieves and the respective barangay officials will be pursued to explore potential areas of collaboration, resource support, and community participation in addressing the electrical safety and infrastructure needs of the participating schools.
The activity was headed by Dr. Carlos G. Samontina, Public Schools District Supervisor (PSDS) of DepEd Las Nieves District, together with the school heads of the district's 36 public schools. Representing CSUCC were Engr. Blondie T. Sanchez, Dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) and Project Leader of Project EEskwela; Engr. Erickson A. Tacda, Chairperson of the Department of Electrical Engineering and CEPRIC Center Chief; Engr. Melgie Rose C. Acero, Electrical Engineering Faculty Member and Project Leader of Project BantayEE; Engr. Mirafe Nalaza, Electrical Engineering Faculty Member and Project Proponent of Project EEskwela; Engr. Khrezitte Kurlstein Rey Jary Labalan, CEPRIC Technical Staff; and Ms. Jhea Navarrosa, CSUCC Extension Office Staff.
The coordination meeting marked another significant step in expanding CSUCC's community extension initiatives and strengthening institutional collaboration with DepEd in addressing electrical safety and infrastructure concerns in public schools. With the commitment of DepEd Las Nieves District to support the electrical system assessments and capacity-building activities across its 36 schools, Project EEskwela and Project BantayEE are positioned to deliver responsive, needs-based technical assistance and electrical safety education. Through these initiatives, CSUCC-CEPRIC reaffirms its commitment to applying engineering knowledge and expertise in service of local communities, contributing to safer, more functional, and more conducive learning environments for public school learners and personnel in Las Nieves.
