taken in the Past
Angatin is not a new organization though it has been lately registered legally. In the past, for a half-decade now, the members of the group had been actively participating for a change and development efforts in the field of politics and education. It had supported local candidates for public office, a congressional seat and Councilors for the City of Butuan. Recently, in May 14, 2007 local election, another local candidate, a national deputy administrator of the Filipino overseas workers had just resigned in order to serve his very own people of Butuan City and the province of Agusan del Norte, was supported by the organization for a congressional seat. Political and educational efforts were launched by the organization in order to pursue its conviction. In the field of economic activity, massive campaign and introduction of cassava and banana production technology was launched to enhance family income of the poor farmers. At this point, the organization is focusing its effort in developing micro-economic enterprise out of their products. Being among the major products other than rice, abacca and coconut, banana and cassava are potential, but less attended, agricultural products that the organization would like to deliver support and services to its beneficiaries. Today, we shall be very glad to link partners for development especially in the field of alternative economic activity through micro-economic enterprise development out of banana and cassava optimal production. Recent Activities
Recently and currently Angatin is actively organizing neighboring communities, barangay based level, in the areas of Butuan City and Agusan Del Norte for the formation of bamboo growers organization under Angatin. This activity is geared towards establishing sufficient supplies of bamboo raw materials in order to effectively launch complete cessation of illegal logging as there is a clear supply of a substitute raw material for furnitures, constructions and other related utilities. This is also an effort to participate the popular movement on climate change. Bamboo growers can rapidly contribute climate change because of bamboo’s growth rate and maturity which is not beyond five years. It is also a sustainable one since it is self-generating with numerous soothes growing to replace cut down ones. New Program for Implementation
The development of bamboo growers with enough participation and sufficient number of poles for future use require a preparation of turning the bamboo pole stand inventory into a an economic activity by establishing a processing plant for the production of bamboo finished product for home and building construction, Office and classroom equipment and the like.
