FSUU Teams Shine at DOSTโ€™s 2026 National Innovation Day Hackathon in Caraga โœจ

Father Saturnino Urios University demonstrated its commitment to innovation and excellence as its student and faculty teams emerged as winners during the DOSTโ€™s 2026 National Innovation Day in Caraga โ€“ LUNSAD Programโ€™s DRRM and Circular Economy Hackathon Solutions Pitching Competition.

The event, held on April 21, 2026, at the HERO Learning Commons Building of Caraga State University, gathered State Universities and College and Higher Education Institutions across the region to showcase innovative solutions addressing Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Circular Economy challenges.

FSUU proudly secured 1st Place in the Student Category through the startup team RESQ, composed of students from the Computer Studies Program and Business Administration Program. The team was awarded a cash prize of โ‚ฑ20,000.

The winning team members are:

* Mr. John Paul Linogao
* Mr. Jowehl Josh Radaza
* Ms. Sean Valdehueza

The RESQ team impressed the judges with their innovative and practical solution designed to enhance disaster response and resilience, highlighting the power of interdisciplinary collaboration between technology and business.

In the Professional Category, FSUU also made its mark by winning 3rd Place through the startup team AGAPAY SMS, earning a prize of โ‚ฑ10,000.

The team is composed of faculty members from the Business Administration Program and Computer Studies Program:

AGAPAY SMS presented a solution that leverages communication technologies to support communities, particularly in times of crisis, reinforcing the importance of accessible and reliable systems in disaster management.

The competition served as a platform for fostering innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving among academic institutions in Caraga. FSUUโ€™s strong performance reflects the universityโ€™s growing role in nurturing startup ecosystems, promoting interdisciplinary learning, and contributing to regional development through technology-driven solutions.

FSUU also extends its heartfelt congratulations to DOST Caraga for the successful conduct of the event, which continues to inspire innovation and collaboration across the region. On April 20, 2026, at the FSUU Conference Room, the 4th Year Social Entrepreneurship students held their Business Implementation Livelihood Presentation as part of their final requirements. The 1st-year Social Entrepreneurship students were also welcomed as they attended the event to observe and gain insights, getting a firsthand glimpse of the path of innovation and impact that lies ahead of them.

On April 18, 2026, BAP Days 2026 has officially kicked off, and JSES is already making its move! With inspiring beginnings and active participation, JSES showed teamwork, energy, and determination in every eventโ€”on and off the board.

The first day of the event kept the momentum going as JSES students took part in different events, from intense e-games battles and strategic indoor matches to competitive outdoor sports and creative showcases.

The event began with inspiring messages from our leaders, including the Opening Remarks delivered by the SSG Adviser, Mr. Vince Harvey Llorito on behalf of the Program Dean, Dr. Nephi P. Romano, followed by the Welcome Address of the BAP-SSG Governor, Joshua Martelino. The official start of the celebration was marked by the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, symbolizing the opening of this yearโ€™s BAP Days.

The crowd was energized by an amazing intermission performance by the FSUU Dance Company, setting the stage for the dayโ€™s competitions and activities.

As part of the final requirement of the 4th year Social Entrepreneurship students of Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU), Musavino shared its inspiring journey of community innovation and empowerment.

Through the business implementation activity, Musavino opened its storyโ€”showing how local resources can be transformed into sustainable opportunities. In Sitio Iyao, Barangay Anticala, Butuan City, students witnessed how farmersโ€™ resources, particularly bananas, can be upscaled into value-added products while creating livelihood opportunities for the community.

โœจA Successful Livelihood Training for the Communityโœจ

Last March 7, 2026, the Glamo Arts and Crafts Livelihood Training was successfully conducted at Sitio Iyao, Barangay Anticala, Butuan City as part of the final requirement of the 4th year Social Entrepreneurship students of Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU).

The training focused on teaching crochet skills, where participants learned how simple yarn can be transformed into beautiful handmade products. Through this hands-on activity, the community gained new knowledge and skills that may serve as a potential source of additional livelihood.

The event was a meaningful and successful experience of sharing skills, creativity, and empowerment. It showed how small ideas and simple crafts can open opportunities and inspire communities toward sustainable livelihood. ๐Ÿงถโœจ
