UAP–BUTUAN CHAPTER SUPPORTS DEVELOPMENT OF FLAGSHIP SOCIALIZED HOUSING MODEL

The United Architects of the Philippines – Butuan Chapter expressed its support for the City Government of Butuan in developing a Flagship Model Housing Unit under the Enhanced Socialized Housing Program, following a coordination meeting with the Butuan City Housing and Homesite Development Department (CHHDD) on February 26, 2026.

The chapter committed to mobilizing architectural expertise to help develop a climate-responsive, disaster-resilient, and cost-efficient housing prototype, under the leadership of Chapter President Marivic Aboloc, in support of the city’s housing thrust under Mayor Law Fortun for decent and inclusive housing for Butuanon families.

CSU will be the third Higher Education Institution to offer BS Architecture in the region after Saint Joseph Institute of Technology in Butuan City and Surigao Education Center in Surigao City, and will be the first State University in the region to do so.

Caraga State University's Main Campus expands its academic horizons as the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)-Caraga officially approves two new degree programs: the Bachelor of Science in Architecture and the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, to be offered beginning in the first semester of the 2026-2027 school year.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED)- Caraga Region has formally endorsed both programs. Report on the Result of the Preliminary Assessment (PRPA) No. 001, s. 2026 for the BS Architecture program was issued on January 12, 2026, followed by RRPA No. 002, s. 2026 for the BS Mechanical Engineering Program, two days later. The CHED assessment confirmed that the university, through its College of Engineering and Geosciences, has substantially complied with all mandatory criteria in Administration, Faculty, Curriculum, Library, and Laboratory and Physical Facilities.

These make the university the first State University and College (SUC) to offer the BS Architecture in the Caraga Region and the second to offer the BS Mechanical Engineering.

CHED also stated that it will require the college to fulfill the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) after two years of program implementation. Upon receiving the final green light from the CSU Board of Regents, both programs are slated to begin accepting students in the first semester of School Year 2026-2027.

Renowned architect Frank Gehry has passed away at the age of 96.

One of the world's most iconic architects, Gehry crafted cultural landmarks around the world, pioneering new approaches in parametric design that fundamentally changed modern practice. The 1989 Pritzker Prize Winner was also famous for his outspoken personality, challenging the profession to push boundaries and develop radical new ways to enhance the built environment. Architizer will explore his legacy in the coming weeks, and celebrate the unparalleled impact Gehry has had on architecture over the past half century.

In an interview with Architizer in 2023, Gehry was asked: "If you could give one piece of advice to the next generation of architects, what would it be?"

His answer spoke volumes:

"Be curious and work hard. Whatever you do, do your very best at it."
