A STATEMENT FROM THE ASSOCIATION OF DSWD SOCIAL WORKERS, INCORPORATED (ADSWI) – CARAGA CHAPTER
On the Recent Malicious Allegations Against DSWD and the Social Work Profession
We, the Association of DSWD Social Workers, Incorporated (ADSWI) – Caraga Chapter, strongly denounce the baseless and harmful accusations made recently against DSWD and its employees. These false claims (DSWD is more corrupt than the "mentioned agency" currently in the national spotlight, that DSWD employees own multiple cars through ill-gotten gains from travel claims, that their salaries are excessive and akin to bonuses, and that there is "easy money" in social work), circulated on social media, are not only attacks on our institution but also on the integrity and dedication of every social worker who serves the Filipino people every day.
As social workers, we dedicate our lives to serving the poor, the marginalized, and the vulnerable—often in difficult, dangerous, and thankless conditions. That is why it is deeply disheartening when our efforts are undermined by unfounded statements that paint a distorted picture of who we are and what we do.
The claims made against us are simply not true. They ignore the reality that every DSWD employee earns their salary based on work that is honest, transparent, and accountable. Our compensation, like that of all government workers, follows strict rules and guidelines set by law. There are no hidden privileges, no unfair advantages—only fair wages for hard work.
To suggest otherwise is not just an attack on our profession, but also a slap in the face of every social worker who braves hardships to deliver services—whether in far-flung barangays, disaster-stricken areas, or crowded urban communities.
We want the public to know this: we stand firm in our commitment to serve. Despite limited resources, heavy workloads, and personal risks, we continue to go to the frontlines because our mission is bigger than ourselves. We are here for the Filipino people—for the families who need help, for the children who deserve protection, for the communities that depend on us in times of crisis.
We call on everyone to reject disinformation and instead support those who dedicate their lives to social service. What we ask is simple: respect the dignity of social workers and the noble work that we do.
To our fellow social workers, let us remain united, resilient, and steadfast. Our strength is in our solidarity. To the Filipino people, we assure you that your social workers will never abandon you. We will continue to uphold the highest standards of service, guided always by our values of integrity, compassion, and professionalism.
Together, let us protect the truth, defend the profession, and keep serving with heart.
