Hope for the Island, Philippines

Hope for the Island, Philippines A faith based organization serving the needs of people in Siargao island through community based programs, education and sustainable development. (1 Cor 13:13).

Hope for the Island was founded in 2001 on a relatively small teardrop shaped island in the Philippines known as Siargao. Carved out of the jungle you will find a place that has become a beacon of hope for many. It’s a place that blossomed out of seeds planted in love. Intentional acts of love and compassion created a movement touching lives and restoring hope. Most of those who are currently serv

ing full time at Hope for the Island were impacted in one way or another through the years and now commit their lives to help others in surrounding communities encounter hope. LOVE is what inspires us to weather the storms and persevere with passion. Our vision at Hope for the Island find its roots in Love! From a familiar yet often neglected verses in the bible we find our mandate (Matthew 22:37-39 / Jn 13:34). We are called to reflect the love we have for our Creator, in the way we live out and reflect Jesus love to His creation. Opportunities to choose and act in love are endless. By stepping out of ourselves in faith, we create an environment where hope is found, love is nurtured and lives restored. Each person no matter the deeply oppressive or hopeless situation they are in is designed for a purpose. Through our community based programs, education and sustainable development we labor to relieve the pressures of poverty and empower locals for a brighter and blessed future.

Check out the exciting changes we’ve made to our Kids Ministry!

In the past, our team traveled from town to town each Saturday, running children’s ministry programs in multiple communities. We would spend the day teaching Bible lessons, leading games, performing skits, and building relationships with the children in each location.

Now, instead of bringing the ministry to each town separately, we bring the children together at Hope for the Island. This change has allowed us to provide more staff support, better resources, and a stronger ministry experience for everyone involved. The children have especially enjoyed the opportunity to make new friends and connect with kids from different towns and communities.

Rather than spending much of the day traveling between ministry locations, our two wonderful drivers now pick up each group and bring them to Hope for the Island. The children arrive around 9:00 AM and spend the morning enjoying snacks, meals, worship, Bible lessons, games, and fellowship together in one place.

HAPPY 128th 🇵🇭INDEPENDENCE DAY!

Independence Day is more
than just remembering heroes of the past.
It’s also a reminder to pray for our nation, honor those who sacrificed before us, and to use our freedom to live for God’s glory.

BLESSED IS THE NATION WHOSE GOD IS THE LORD.
PSALM 33:12

May our freedom lead us closer to God, not farther from Him.

**Day 2: The Truth**

In a world full of noise, lies, and truth that is often bent to fit what people want to hear, our youth were reminded of something important:

God’s truth does not change.

Day 2 of Youth Sports Camp was full of worship, God’s Word, small group sharing, Amazing Race, basketball, cheer dance, and a whole lot of rain.

And yes, the rain came. But so did the laughter.

The plan shifted, the ground got wet, and the energy only got louder. After the activities, we continued the basketball competition and cheer dance at the Burgos Gym, ending the day with tired bodies but full hearts.

More than the games, our prayer is that our youth would learn to stand on what is true.

Not what culture says.
Not what feelings say.
Not what the world keeps changing.

But the truth of God’s Word.

One Way. Jesus.

Our Youth Fellowship has started a new monthly theme: Sinned and Fallen Short, based on Romans 3:23.

Kuya John opened the month by teaching about sin, why we cannot save ourselves, and why this truth helps us understand our need for Jesus.

After the message, the youth broke into small groups to talk through what they heard and how it applies to their lives.

This is part of what we are building at Hope for the Island: a space where young people can hear God’s Word, ask questions, grow in faith, and be discipled in community.

We have all sinned.
We have all fallen short.
And we all need Jesus.

Ministry is not built on one person alone.

It takes people willing to set up, clean, prepare, follow up, pray, serve, and quietly say yes behind the scenes.

The heart of ministry is often found in the unseen moments.

Grateful for the team who keeps showing up, serving faithfully, and making this all possible! 🤍

There is something special about watching people from different parts of the world sit in the same small homes, share the same prayers, and speak the same language of compassion.

During our Widows Ministry visits, we were grateful to be joined by our friends from YWAM Norway, who are here in Siargao for a short-term mission.

Together, we spent time with our widows and widowers, sharing the Word, praying, listening to stories, and simply being present.

No grand agenda. Just people choosing to slow down and remind someone: you are remembered, you are loved, and you matter.

And maybe that is one of the simplest ways the love of Christ is felt. 🤍

Kalinga House. What started as a burden on our hearts is now a place with open doors!

While Kalinga House has already been serving and welcoming girls for some time, this week marked a special milestone as we held our official opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony together with our local leaders and community partners.

More than a building, Kalinga House is a home. A safe place where girls can be cared for, discipled, restored, and reminded that they are deeply loved by God.

This milestone was made possible through the generous support and collaboration of Booth & Partners, whose partnership helped bring this vision to life. We are deeply grateful for organizations that choose to invest not only in buildings, but in the future of young lives.

We are also thankful to Hon. Mayor Emmanuel N. Arcena for taking the time to join us and support this milestone, to Former Mayor Angie Arcena for her continued encouragement, to Dr. Louell Rhyle A. Hipulan and our local LGU- Municipality of Burgos, Surigao del Norte for standing with us in caring for the youth and families of Burgos, and to SB Member Pedrita V. Domios for being part of this meaningful occasion.

This moment reminded us that caring for the next generation is not the work of one organization alone. It takes partnership, prayer, and a community willing to believe that our youth are worth investing in.

Today was not simply about opening a house.
It was about affirming a shared commitment to hope.

We pray that every girl who walks through these doors would find safety, healing, family, and most importantly, the love of Christ.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” Psalm 127:1 🤍

Day 1. The Way.

Today officially marked the start of our Youth Sports Camp 2026, and what a full first day it was.

From worship and God’s Word, to team huddles, Larong Pinoy, basketball games, volleyball, poster making, and cheer dance prep, the campgrounds were filled with laughter, movement, and new friendships forming.

But behind every activity was something deeper.

This year’s theme is One Way: Jesus. And on Day 1, we focused on The Way. A reminder that in a world full of voices, opinions, and directions, Jesus remains the only way to true life.

We ended the day tired, sweaty, grateful, and excited for what God will continue to do in the days ahead.

Day 1 is done.
Day 2, we’re ready. 🤍

Behind every camp are hands that prepare, hearts that pray, and people who choose to believe with us.

It takes a lot of work to make something like this happen. The planning, packing, sorting, cleaning, setting up, coordinating, and all the little details no one always sees.

But more than that, it takes faith.

Faith that God will provide. Faith that every need will be met. Faith that every youth who comes will encounter something more than just activities and games.

And because of generous sponsors and partners, we get to open this camp with no registration fee for the youth of Burgos.

We are also grateful for the support of our local LGU in Burgos, who came alongside us by providing signs, assistance, and encouragement for this camp. Their partnership reminds us that raising the next generation is not the work of one organization alone, but a shared commitment to see our youth grow with purpose, character, and the fear of the Lord.

Tomorrow, it begins.

We are thrilled, grateful, expectant, and so excited for what God is about to do. 🤍

Campers - cya bright and early!
