Happy Birthday, One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church!

Today we rejoice not simply in a tradition, but in a living mystery—the birth of the Church at Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles like a rushing wind and tongues of fire. From that moment, fear was transformed into courage, confusion into mission, and silence into proclamation. The Church was no longer locked behind closed doors; it was sent forth into the world.

To call this the “birthday of the Church” is to recognize that the Church is not merely an institution, but a Spirit-filled body of believers united in Christ. The “One” Church speaks of unity amidst diversity—many nations, languages, and cultures, yet one faith and one baptism. The “Holy” Church is not holy because of human perfection, but because it is continually sanctified by God’s grace. The “Catholic” Church is universal, embracing all peoples and all corners of the world. The “Apostolic” Church stands firm on the foundation of the apostles, faithfully passing on the teaching and mission of Christ.

Pentecost reminds us that the Church is always being renewed. The same Spirit who empowered the first disciples continues to breathe life into every generation—calling the fearful to courage, the weary to hope, and the divided to communion. It is a reminder that faith is not meant to remain inside churches alone, but to be lived in families, communities, and the world.

So as we say, “Happy Birthday, One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church,” we are also praying: Come, Holy Spirit, renew Your Church once more. Ignite our hearts with love, strengthen our faith, and send us forth as witnesses of Christ’s living presence in the world today.

FOUNDER OF A FAMOUS MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR COSMETIC BRAND DONATES HIS WEALTH ENTERS PROESTHOOD

From Beauty Industry Success to the Priesthood: e.l.f. Cosmetics Co-Founder to Be Ordained Priest

A remarkable story of vocation and conversion is unfolding in the Church as Scott-Vincent Borba, one of the co-founders of e.l.f. Cosmetics, prepares to be ordained a Catholic priest on May 23, 2026, for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fresno in California.

Known for helping build one of the most recognizable affordable beauty brands in the world, Borba once lived a life centered on business, skincare, fashion, and entrepreneurship. Before co-founding e.l.f. Cosmetics in 2004, he worked in marketing for major beauty companies, including Neutrogena, and later launched his own skincare line. His success in the beauty industry brought him financial stability, influence, and recognition. Yet despite his achievements, Borba revealed that God had been calling him to a different mission since childhood.

According to Borba, he first felt called to the priesthood at the age of 10. However, it would take decades before he fully embraced that calling. After spending more than 20 years in the corporate beauty world, he eventually left behind his multimillion-dollar career to pursue a life dedicated entirely to God and the Church.

At the age of 42, Borba entered Saint Patrick's Seminary and University to begin his formation for the priesthood. His decision surprised many who knew him from the business world, but for Borba, it was a response to a deeper purpose that wealth and success could not fulfill. He has also shared that he donated much of his wealth to charity as he prepared for a simpler life of ministry and service.

Before his upcoming priestly ordination, Borba was first ordained as a deacon, continuing his journey of service within the Church. He has expressed his desire to dedicate the rest of his life to preaching the Gospel, serving the faithful, and bringing others closer to Christ.

His story has inspired many Catholics and non-Catholics alike, showing that God’s call can come at any stage of life. From boardrooms and beauty brands to the altar and the sacraments, Scott-Vincent Borba’s journey serves as a powerful reminder that true fulfillment is found not in worldly success, but in faithfully following God’s will.

TODAY, WE REMEMBER POPE BENEDICT XVI ON HIS BIRTHDAY

Today, we celebrate the birthday of Pope Benedict XVI, who was born on April 16, 1927, in Marktl, Germany, and returned to the Lord on December 31, 2022.

His life was a quiet yet powerful testimony of faith rooted in truth and humility. Known to the world as a brilliant theologian, he dedicated his entire life to serving the Church—not through noise or spectacle, but through clarity of thought, depth of prayer, and unwavering fidelity to Christ. Before becoming pope, he spent decades teaching and writing, helping believers understand that faith is not blind, but deeply reasonable and grounded in love. He reminded us that to believe in God is not to abandon intellect, but to allow it to be illuminated by truth.

As pope, he carried the heavy responsibility of leading the Church during challenging times. Yet, what made him truly remarkable was not just his intellect, but his humility. In a historic and deeply human decision, he chose to resign from the papacy—an act that spoke volumes of his awareness of his limits and his love for the Church above personal honor. It was a reminder that true leadership is not about holding on to power, but knowing when to entrust it to others for the greater good.

Even in his final years, living a life of silence and prayer, Pope Benedict XVI continued to serve in the most profound way—by interceding for the world. His hidden life became a witness that the greatest battles are often fought not in public, but in the stillness of prayer.

Today, as we remember his birth, we also reflect on the legacy he left behind—a legacy of truth, courage, and quiet strength. In a world often overwhelmed by noise, confusion, and conflict, his life gently reminds us to return to what truly matters: a deep relationship with God, a sincere search for truth, and a humble heart willing to serve.

May his life continue to guide us, and may we learn from his example that greatness in the eyes of God is found not in power, but in faithfulness.
