It was on March 17, 1999 when a group of municipal employees formed and registered a cooperative with the Cooperative Development Authority. Year 2002 the coop launched its lending program and Year 2005 the coop opened its consumer retail store which caters the basic commodity needs of its growing members. Living those years, the cooperative ventured into several financial and other allied service

s which made the coop what it is today. The coop, together its officers, staffs and members will strive together to achieve the common goals and be a first priority and not just an option. With these, we can proudly say that BDC is our CHOICE!

On June 25, 26, and 27, 2025, five dedicated employees of Buenavista Development Cooperative participated in the Seminar-Workshop on Risk Self-Assessment (RSA) for Cooperatives, conducted by the LANDBANK Countryside Development Foundation, Inc. (LCDFI).

This three-day capacity-building initiative was also participated in by representatives from five other cooperatives, creating a dynamic space for learning, exchange, and collaboration across the cooperative sector.

Our participants from Buenavista Development Cooperative were:
โ€ข Ms. Adimar Ferrer Gaitan Arellano โ€“ Finance Head
โ€ข Ms. Grace Alvarado โ€“ Account Officer
โ€ข Ms. Annie Babe Tadigon โ€“ Bank Operations Head
โ€ข Ms. Jullienne A. Gabinete โ€“ Aflatoun Coordinator
โ€ข Ms. Ivy Mae Gallo Cabalan โ€“ General Bookkeeper

The seminar-workshop focused on the critical role of Risk Self-Assessment (RSA) as a strategic tool to identify potential vulnerabilities within the organization and to strengthen cooperative governance. Key objectives included:

โœ”๏ธ Appointing a Risk Management Coordinator to lead governance and oversight improvements
โœ”๏ธ Establishing a self-monitoring system for early risk detection and action
โœ”๏ธ Embedding a risk-aware culture across all levels of the cooperative
โœ”๏ธ Ensuring compliance with key requirements under Enhanced Cooperative Operations Review Instrument (ECORI)
โœ”๏ธ Learning from practical experiences and case examples shared by peer cooperatives.

As a crucial next step following RSA, the cooperative will develop a comprehensive Risk Management Plan (RMP)โ€”a structured framework that will guide our organization in mitigating identified risks, enhancing internal controls, and ensuring business continuity.

This forward-looking approach reflects our strong commitment to building a resilient, well-governed, and member-driven cooperative.

We extend our sincere thanks to LCDFI for this opportunity to grow and improve in service of our community.

โ€œRisk awareness today builds cooperative strength for tomorrow.โ€
