I congratulate the Nurturing Green Goals Movement of the Department of Philosophy of St. Mary’s College of Borongan and the Nativity of Our Lady College Seminary for this meaningful initiative, made possible through the support of Bloomberg Philanthropies.

As Chairman of the Commission on Social Action - Justice and Peace of the Diocese of Borongan, I am deeply uplifted to know that, even at an early stage of their formation, our seminarians are already being guided to uphold environmental protection as a priority. It is inspiring to see our future priests and leaders being formed not only in faith and service, but also in caring for our common home.

This formation becomes even more meaningful in our own context. The historic island of Homonhon, the first landing site of Christianity in the Philippines, has felt and continues to feel the impact of mining. The island of Manicani faces similar challenges, along with the many attempts to expand mining activities across mainland Samar. These realities call for leaders who are not only spiritually grounded but also courageous in protecting both people and the environment.

We are also reminded that Samar Island Natural Park (SINP) is one of the largest forest reserves in the country—a very important ecological treasure that serves as a natural shield against strong typhoons, especially because we are facing the mighty Pacific Ocean. Protecting it is not only an environmental duty but also a mission of safeguarding lives and communities.

This formation reflects the vision of the late Pope Francis especially in Laudato Si' where we are reminded that care for creation is an essential part of our Christian vocation.

May you all continue to grow as faithful stewards of God’s creation -- men who will lead with wisdom, compassion, and courage, inspiring others to protect the beauty and integrity of the world entrusted to us.

NGGM GOES TO OLFA 🌱🌿

Today, the Nurturing Green Goals Movement (NGGM) brought its aim of raising environmental awareness and encouraging vocational inspiration to Our Lady Of Fatima Academy, Inc. (OLFA) in Gen. MacArthur, Eastern Samar.

Students were encouraged to engage in deeper reflection on caring for our common home, accepting responsibility for creation, and discerning a life of service based on faith through an engaging environmental awareness session and a meaningful vocation campaign, with a focus on the call for more vocations.

Together, we will continue to cultivate green goals and inspire careers toward a greener and more hopeful future.

We sincerely extend our profound gratitude to the RVM sisters of the institution, the institution's principal S. Ma. Amelia V. Sadaba, RVM., together with the faculty and staff. Your invaluable assistance and generosity were critical to the successful and meaningful ex*****on of this activity. 💚

NGGM VISITS DNHS & MDGC 🌱

The Nurturing Green Goals Movement (NGGM) brought its mission of environmental awareness and vocational campaign to Dolores National High School (DNHS) and Mater Divinae Gratiae College Inc. (MDGC).

Through an engaging environmental awareness talk and a meaningful campaign on vocation particularly the call to the priesthood students were invited into deeper conversations about caring for our common home, embracing responsibility toward creation, and reflecting on service, faith, and discernment in their life journey.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to St. Joachim Parish – Dolores for generously sponsoring our meals, and to Vice Mayor Kary Santiago for providing transportation support. Your invaluable generosity played a vital role in making this activity a meaningful and resounding success.

Together, we nurture green goals and inspire vocations for a better tomorrow. 🌿

NGGM GOES TO MAYPANGDAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL🌱

Nurturing Green Goals Movement conducts an environmental awareness talk and a vocational campaign for the priesthood at Maypangdan National High School, engaging students in conversations about care for the environment, responsibility toward creation, and reflection on service, faith, and discernment of one’s vocation in life.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Maypangdan National High School for their support and cooperation in making the event a resounding success.

ATM: Members of NGGM attend an invitation seminar titled "Towards a Just Energy Transition: Understanding Renewable Energy Project in Taft, Eastern Samar".

The Social Action Commission of the Diocese of Borongan is hosting the event at Medroso Hall, Bishop's Residence in Borongan City.

January 6, 2025: Today marks a year since the Philosophy department met to discuss the implementation of Environmental Stewardship [NGGM], which was led by Fr. Romel Arce, the NGGM Adviser.

We do not stop being just seminarians, but we are also in vision of mobilizing the community to unite and protect our natural heritage for future generations—integrating philosophy with community developments.

Tree Planting Activity🌱

NGGM, together with the youth and Parish Pastoral Council, conducted a tree planting activity at Brgy. San Jose.

Along with the planting, lemon and rambutan seedlings were distributed to selected households to encourage backyard gardening.

The activity was supported by community members and the local Parish Pastoral Council, highlighting community participation toward a greener and a more sustainable future.
