𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨. 𝙂𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨. 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨. 🏡🤙

Calingatngan Youth Organization through Bloomberg Philanthropies and Local Government Unit of Borongan City brought together youth, children, and families through climate education, disaster preparedness activities, eco-friendly giveaways, and the Gardenator project for the Youth Climate Action Fund Round 2—turning climate action into community action.

👋 Hey Eco-Warriors of Borongan City, Eastern Samar! We're bringing circular food systems solution ☑ using the Gardenator to your city through our collaboration with the Calingatngan Youth Organization! ♻

The Gardenator 🌿 is a doable and replicable innovation introduced by Kids Who Farm x Kids Can Compost to allow households 🏠 to positively contribute to food waste management and food access improvement. 🍲

Participated in by distinguished city officials, school & youth-led organizations, SK chairpersons, and partner agencies, the Local Government Unit of Borongan held the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund (BP-YCAF) Round 2 Culminating Activity at Wheelers Lodge, Bay Bay Boulevard, on Saturday, December 20.

The one-day activity was conducted to highlight the youth-led climate action initiatives supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, as well as to demonstrate the City's continued commitment to environmental protection and youth empowerment.

In his welcome message, Acting City Mayor Hon. Emmanuel Tiu Sonco, represented by Atty. Mark Gregory Afable, warmly welcomed the participants and underscored the significance of the activity, especially as it was held during the Christmas season. He said that the gathering reflects the hard work, creativity, and leadership of young people who are already taking active roles in climate action. He likewise reaffirmed the City’s support for youth-led environmental initiatives. “Through this program, Borongan continues to show that youth empowerment and environmental stewardship go hand in hand,” he said.

Committee Chairperson for Environment, Acting Vice Mayor Ma. Rozene Daza, in her message of support, emphasized the importance of the event as it serves as the culmination of months of hard work for the Bloomberg grantees. Daza also noted the youth’s journey and shared in celebrating their triumphs, recognizing their passion and dedication in carrying out activities and projects related to environmental protection.

The speakers also shared a common message that climate action is a shared responsibility of the barangays, the youth, and the schools. Assistant Department Head of the City Planning and Development Office, Engr. Jovanie Mercado, stressed that climate action begins at the community level, with barangays ready to support youth activities such as clean-up drives, tree planting, and waste management.

Meanwhile, BCENRO Head For. Jojito Acla said that the BP-YCAF has proven the capability of young people to lead meaningful projects and acknowledged the collective contributions of all stakeholders in making the initiatives successful. Mr. Reginald James Lorico, Executive Assistant II, also expressed his optimism for future Bloomberg-supported activities, noting that the culminating activity clearly showed the potential of young people to lead when given trust and support.

The succeeding activities featured video presentations showcasing the achievements of participating schools and youth-led organizations. Fun games, raffle draws, and youth performances added excitement to the event and made the celebration more engaging.

More than just a culminating activity, the BP-YCAF Round 2 served as a platform to strengthen unity among youth leaders and organizations to foster shared responsibility and collective action in protecting the environment.

Our CYO Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund Program Finale, “Kita an Kusog: Borongan Youth Climate Film Viewing Bootcamp,” has officially wrapped up at Latay Resort, Brgy. Surok, Borongan City. Led by CYO President, Jerwin Lloyd Aljibe, together with the Sangguniang Kabataan - SK ng Calingatngan led by Hon. Arturo Gerna.

Thank you to all the youth from Calingatngan and nearby barangays who joined us. Your energy made the film viewing, climate talks, and activities even more meaningful. We’re glad to see everyone learn, share stories, and connect through our shared commitment to climate action.
