Help us protect the last remaining pristine beach, forest and wildlife in Boracay. On the northern part of Boaracy island you find Puka shell beach, a stunningly beautiful beach surrounded by green hills consisting of pristine tropical beach forest. This forest his the home to a wide range of wildlife, such as turtles, lizards, monkeys and birds among them are found tropical fruit bats. Because o
f these bats, these forest hills is the key forest, the mother host for the ecosystem of Boracay Island and all northwest panay peninsula. Tropical fruit bats distribute seeds from trees on a wide range of land and stand for 90% of reforestation of cleared land. Boracay’s water source actually comes from the forest in the mainland that these bats also reforest. The roost sites are located on the hills above puka shell beach and vary from season to season based on the wind directions. The bats need a large range of forest to stay healthy. The forest used by the bats ranges from the west side, starting near Shangri la, and covers all the ridge of puka shell and makes a jump to Ilgiligan during habagat season. We need to protect the whole forest ridge, for the islands ecosystem to stay healthy. We need to keep one beach unspoilt and intact, for the ocean reefs to stay healthy! Make all this a Wildlife sanctuary, so that both humans and animals and environment can enjoy and benefit. Make it a national park. The forest is already declared a forest, thus supposed to be protected, and the beaches are already supposed to be protected as well, and the tropical fruit bats are world wide endangered and declared critically endangered, protected by the wildlife act. How ever, property owners are constantly pushing to bend the laws, wanting to develop the land, as for every new term of government officials, the same procedures starts and some of them manage to get the rules bent. In protecting this forest, Declaring it a WILD LIFE SANCTUARY, we make sure our islands ecosystem will benefit from this in years to come, and its there for future generations to enjoy the beauty of this beautiful beach and nature wonder.
