The student council officers of Saint Vincent School actively took part in the “Mental Health Matters Workshop” held at Eyeb, Poblacion, Bontoc, Mountain Province on Friday, September 12, 2025. The workshop was organized by the Municipal Health Office, Bontoc LGU to raise awareness and deepen the understanding of students on mental health issues that are often overlooked but are vital in school and community life.
The day’s activities were carefully structured, starting with an opening prayer, national anthem, and a message from the Municipal Mayor, Hon. Franklin C. Odsey—represented by Hon. Benedict P. Odsey II. Students were guided through interactive sessions such as the Expectation Map and Stress Mapping, which helped them reflect on their personal experiences and challenges.
The highlight of the program was the lecture of Ma’am Dixi Jane L. Kiniway, a Registered Nurse, Licensed Professional Teacher, and Mental Health Coordinator. She dedicated her time to explain the importance of understanding mental health, identifying stress, and practicing mindfulness. Her passion and expertise made the session not just informative but also inspiring for the student leaders, encouraging them to be more mindful of their own well-being and supportive of their peers.
The afternoon sessions focused on practical applications, including “Helping a Peer in Distress” lectures and return demonstrations, as well as the creation of a Mental Health Action Plan for the student council. The program ended with a calming Mindfulness Activity and a closing program, leaving the participants with tools and insights they can carry into their leadership roles.
Overall, the workshop became a meaningful experience for the student council officers of Saint Vincent School as they not only gained knowledge but also strengthened their commitment to promote mental health awareness among their fellow students.
