At the sight of the crowds, Jesusโ€™ heart was moved with pity for themโฃ
because they were troubled and abandoned,โฃ
like sheep without a shepherd.โฃ
Then he said to his disciples,โฃ
โ€œThe harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;โฃ
so ask the master of the harvestโฃ
to send out laborers for his harvest.โ€โฃ

Then he summoned his twelve disciplesโฃ
and gave them authority over unclean spiritsโฃ
to drive them out and to cure every disease and every illness.โฃ
The names of the twelve apostles are these:โฃ
first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew;โฃ
James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John;โฃ
Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector;โฃ
James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus;โฃ
Simon from Cana, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.โฃ

Jesus sent out these twelve after instructing them thus,โฃ
โ€œDo not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town.โฃ
Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.โฃ
