Alyansa Tigil Mina (ATM) lauds the victorious resistance by the residents of MacArthur, Leyte that has caused the pullout of the gigantic cutter suction dredger from their farmlands.

Were it not for the firm and persistent efforts of the people of MacArthur, the humongous dredger would now be plowing through their farmlands and destroying their crops.

Instead, the dredger is on its way back to China – a clear triumph for the residents who loudly opposed black sand mining and pressed the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to act on their demands.

𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐨 𝐦𝐨?

Ang MACEC ay isang NGO sa ilalim ng Diyosesis ng Boac na ang pangunahing tungkulin ay ang pangalagaan ang kalikasan ng minamahal nating lalawigang Marinduque.

Ngunit ano nga ba ang MACEC para sa akin?
Bilang isang kabataan at isa sa mga kabataang namumuno sa organisasyon, ito ay may isa sa pinaka mahalagang papel sa pangangalaga ng ating lalawigan mula pa noong naganap ang Marcopper Mining Disaster, ang tungkulin ng MACEC ay protektahan at panatilihin ang kaayusang pangkalikasan. Pero hindi lamang dito ito natatapos, ang MACEC ay isa sa mga nag - hihikayat at gumagabay sa mga mamamayan at kabataan ng lalawigan na patuloy pang palakasin ang pagkakaisa laban sa pang-aabuso sa kalikasan.

Mga kapatid, pangalagaan natin ang ating kalikasan, atin itong protektahan dahil ito lamang ang nag-iisa nating tahanan. Kung hindi tayo sino? Kung hindi ngayon kailan?

At sa ating mga kabataan, kung hindi natin itatatak sa ating mga utak ang kahalagahan ng kalikasan. Paano natin ito ma po-protektahan? Kaya kabataan atin na itong simulan at panghawakan.

In our country where environmental laws were passed not because they want to protect neither the air nor water, but they were passed to get votes.

Let's change the system, hear us out!

Taking care of the environment is important for human existence. For proper environmental care, it is important to have some legislation in place. The laws that we have regarding the environment provide a guideline so that we can take care of the environment in an effective manner. Environmental laws are also in the front line to make sure that the law is followed when it comes to taking care of the environment.

As a youth and as the present environmental warrior let's take that environmental laws are not barriers to progress, they are safeguards for our forests, rivers, oceans, and communities. Let us stand together in defending our natural heritage for present and future generations.
