Rising Above the Waves and the Board: Lawigan Elementary’s Inspiring Athletes
At Lawigan Elementary School, talent often blooms quietly, nurtured by determination rather than privilege. This year, two young athletes proved that greatness can come from the most unexpected places. One found his gift in the calculated moves of chess, the other in the powerful rhythm of swimming. Together, they carried the pride of their school all the way to CRAG—the Caraga Regional Athletic Meet.
For these children, the journey was not easy. Resources were scarce, and opportunities often seemed out of reach. Yet, their passion became their compass. “We practiced every day, even when it was hard,” one of them shared with a shy smile. “Chess taught me patience and strategy. It made me believe I could win, even if I started with less.”
The swimmer echoed the same resilience. “The water is where I feel free,” she said. “Every stroke is a chance to prove that I can go further, faster, stronger. Competing at CRAG was like a dream—I never thought I’d reach that level.”
Though they did not bring home the championship medals, their achievement was far greater. They gained courage, confidence, and the belief that their dreams are within reach. Their story is not about loss, but about strength. It is about how two children from Lawigan Elementary showed that determination can carry you beyond limitations.
Today, they dream bigger. One envisions becoming a famous chess player, competing on national and international stages. The other sees herself as a celebrated swimmer, gliding through pools across the world. Their journey at CRAG was just the beginning—a stepping stone toward futures filled with promise.
Their story reminds us all: success is not only measured by trophies, but by the courage to keep moving forward. Lawigan Elementary is proud to have witnessed their rise, and prouder still to know that their journey will inspire many more children to chase their dreams, no matter the odds.
Their success would not have been possible without the guidance of their mentors Ma’am Charlita R. Pimentel, Chess Coach; Sir Reymart Aporbo, Chess Trainer; and Ma’am Cutie Gamora, School Coach in Swimming. Lawigan Elementary proudly celebrates their inspiring story of resilience and hope.
