The activity provided meaningful discussions, collaborative learning experiences, and relevant insights aimed at enhancing the competencies of Career Guidance Advocates in effectively implementing responsive and learner-centered career guidance programs in schools.

These experiences reflect not only my own efforts, but also the support of the people I have worked with—each role an opportunity to 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧, 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞, and 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰.

As both a student leader and researcher, I have come to understand that meaningful change is built on consistency and shared responsibility. With this, I remain ready to continue learning and contributing alongside others.

‎Way back in 2024, our school officers were choosing who would be the next SSLG leaders for the upcoming school year. At that time, I already knew I wanted to step up. Since elementary, I’ve always been a president or vice president in our class, so I really wanted to continue and improve that leadership side of me. That’s why I took the opportunity to be part of the SSLG family.

‎Even though the position I aimed for was not that high, I believed it could still make a difference in my life. For the next school year, I was encouraged to run as SSLG president. My best friend, Collen, also ran—and honestly, I already expected her to win because I knew she deserved it. She’s capable, and I truly believed in her.
‎
‎Then suddenly, Ma’am Jean told me that I could be the Barkada Kontra Bisyo (BKB) President in our school. I didn’t hesitate—I grabbed the opportunity. Me and Collen still served in the same school, just in different roles. I didn’t know back then that being a BKB President would actually change my whole life.
‎
‎When the division election came, I doubted myself. Most of the candidates were senior high school students, and I was just a Grade 8 student at that time. I didn’t really expect to win, but I still gave my best. And surprisingly, I won as Division BKB Auditor.
‎
‎The next year, I was still the BKB President, and I was elected as Division Federation BKB Secretary. Even when I transferred to another school, I still ran as BKB President because I really wanted to serve the students and help guide them away from drugs and other vices. Being a transferee wasn’t easy—I didn’t know many people—but I still tried and gave my best. And again, I won.

‎When the next division federation election came, I felt the pressure. But still, I stand firm and gave eveything I had. And I was given the chance again.
‎
‎All of these experiences shaped me into who I am today. And now, I can really say—I’ve come so far from who I used to be.

I did not begin as a leader with all the answers. I began as a student who showed up - who accepted responsibility in small roles and stayed when they grew bigger.

From classroom leadership to SSLG, from division representation to national platforms, my journey was never built on titles alone—but on trust, consistency, and service.

Through every experience, one truth became clear: our voices are strong, but too often, they are divided.

That is why I choose to lead with connection—to strengthen student representation across schools and divisions, and to unify student voices across 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙖 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣.

Because real leadership is not about standing above others - it is about bringing others together.

When leadership connects, student voices don’t just speak - they shape Caraga.

Advancing Prevention Efforts: Retchel D. Generoso Shares Insights in UPC Curriculum 5

Retchel D. Generoso, PDO I and Focal Person of Barkada Kontra Bisyo, served as one of the resource speakers during the conduct of the Universal Prevention Curriculum (UPC) Curriculum 5 training, delivering Module 2: “Why Schools are an Important Setting for Substance Use Prevention.”

In the session, Generoso emphasized the critical role of schools as primary environments for shaping learners’ attitudes, behaviors, and decision-making skills. Highlighting evidence-based approaches, the discussion underscored how schools serve not only as centers of learning but also as protective spaces where early prevention and timely intervention can be effectively implemented.

The participants, composed of school heads from the Bislig City Division, actively engaged in the discussion, reflecting on their own school contexts and identifying strategies to strengthen prevention initiatives within their institutions. The exchange of insights and experiences enriched the session, reinforcing the shared responsibility of school leaders in promoting safe, healthy, and drug-free learning environments.

Through this engagement, Generoso contributed to deepening the understanding of school heads on the importance of integrating substance use prevention into everyday school practices, policies, and programs—ensuring that every learner is supported, guided, and protected.
