I’ve been there.
From DIY homeschooling…
to ALS…
to seeing my children step into public school with confidence and scholarships.

The way we lead our family affects everything.

“Building the Philippines by building your family.”

The VBI community.

Dito ko natutunan ang structure.
Clarity. At paano maging grounded ulit habang nagle-lead.

Kaya ngayon, I’m sharing this with you not just as a mom…
But as someone who’s still growing.

I’m part of the team supporting
🔥VBI: Make The Shift 2026

Hindi ito para sa lahat.

Pero kung ikaw ay:
• Parent na gusto mag-build ng income while raising your family
• Or someone na gusto ng clearer direction sa life at work

Baka ito na yung next step mo.

Hindi mo kailangan maging perfect.

Kailangan mo lang ng tamang environment
habang binubuo mo ulit ang sarili mo at ang pamilya mo.

If this speaks to you, message me.

Usap tayo. Walang pressure.

Kasi minsan…
“Kaya pala.”

FILIPINO LEADERS NAMAN!

100 seats. Two days. Twenty-plus leaders. One room that will never satisfactorily be captured in a recap post or a highlight reel. You either experience it live, or you hear about it later and wonder what it would have felt like to be there.

If you have ever felt overlooked, underpriced, or boxed into a role that is smaller than what you are capable of, this room was built for you. Not to inspire you for a weekend. To shift the way you see yourself permanently.

I was interviewed about homeschooling back in 2020.

At that time, I shared about learning styles, flexibility, and why families choose this path.

🔥 I launched the first homeschooling online summit in the Philippines, STPH Online Summit

But today… Mas malalim na ang understanding ko as a mom.

Because lately, I’ve been walking closely with my son through his mental health journey…
And at the same time, learning to take care of my own.

And one truth keeps coming back to me:

🔥 Our children don’t just need education. They need a connection.

📌Kapag mahina ang connection sa bahay…
💔The outside world becomes louder.
💔Bullying hits deeper.
💔Pressure feels heavier.
And our children carry more than they should.

💡Homeschooling was never just about academics.
It’s about building a home where our children feel:
💘seen
💘heard
💘safe
💘anchored in love

And I know… hindi ito madali.
Some days, we feel present.
Some days, we feel tired.
Some days, we wonder if we’re doing enough.

Momsh, if that’s you... I see you.💞
And I believe we don’t have to figure this out alone.

That’s why I’m opening this conversation for our community.

👉 I created a simple survey to understand:
• How many families are experiencing bullying
• How our children are really doing emotionally
• What support parents like us truly need

🔥I would really appreciate your voice here:

This is not about being perfect parents.

This is about being intentional ones.
Faithful in the small moments.
Present in the everyday.

Because one connected home…
can change a child’s life.

And many connected homes?
We can change a generation.

As "Mommy Bernz," I want to remind you: Hindi kailangang maging mahal o komplikado ang de-kalidad na edukasyon. Kahit may krisis, pwedeng ituloy ang pag-aaral gamit ang OERs (Open Educational Resources) at MOOCs.

Ito ang tinatawag nating "Sulit-Tipid" strategy:
✅ Libreng Textbooks – No need for expensive imports.
✅ Flexible Time – Mag-aral kung kailan may kuryente (Asynchronous Learning).
✅ Resilient Systems – Building a home that doesn't crumble when the lights go out.

If you need a system that works for the Pinoy context... practical, affordable, and faith-centered, inirerekomenda ko na sumama ka sa aming lumalaking pamilya.

👉 Join our STPH FB Community here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/sulittipidatpinoyhomeschooling

Share it below—pag-usapan natin! 👇

Thank you for sharing, Marjorie Aviso 🥰

History tells us what happens next.

In 1973, a similar oil shock caused prices to quadruple. Japan cut industrial energy use by 20%. The US and Europe fell into stagflation.

In 2018, our own TRAIN law pushed inflation to 6.9%, and consumer spending dropped for months.
The pattern is always the same: oil goes up, then transport, electricity, food, and everything else follows.

📌What to expect:
Q2 (Apr-Jun) will be the hardest quarter. Electricity, food, and transport costs all climb at the same time.
Q3 (Jul-Sep) depends on whether the war ends. If it does, recovery starts. If not, sustained pressure.
Q4 (Oct-Dec) becomes the new normal. Whatever you adjust now is your baseline for the next year.

FOR BUSINESS OWNERS:
Here is what I would do right now, regardless of your industry.

1. Know your energy cost exposure. Run the numbers on how much of your operating cost is tied to fuel, electricity, and transport. If you do not know this number, you are flying blind into the most expensive operating environment in years.

2. Stress-test your top accounts. If you serve clients, local or international, have the hard conversation now. Do not wait for them to renegotiate. Show up first with a plan. Clients remember who kept them informed during a crisis.

3. Do not freeze. In the 2008 recession, 57% of companies that used outsourcing actually increased it after the downturn. Crises do not kill businesses that move. They kill businesses that stop. If you can find ways to deliver the same value at lower cost, whether through process improvements, remote work, or restructuring, do it now while you still have options.

4. Watch for the demand shift. When costs rise everywhere, companies start looking for cheaper ways to operate. If you offer a service that saves money for your clients, your value just went up. Position accordingly.

5. Protect your people. Your team is watching how you respond. If their costs go up and you say nothing, they will remember. A fuel allowance, a transport subsidy, even a clear message about what the company is doing - these things build loyalty that outlasts any crisis.

FOR EMPLOYEES AND FAMILIES
This is the time to tighten your household budget, not out of panic, but out of discipline.

1. Track every peso for the next 30 days. You cannot manage what you do not measure. Write down every expense. You will be surprised where money is leaking.

2. Cut discretionary spending now, before you are forced to. The families that survive price shocks are the ones who adjust before the peak, not after.

3. Stock up on essentials gradually. Do not hoard. But if you normally buy rice, cooking oil, and canned goods weekly, consider buying two weeks' worth at current prices before the next round of increases.

4. Reduce energy use at home. EO 110 is pushing conservation across the board. Switch to LED lights, unplug appliances when not in use, and limit air conditioning. Every kilowatt you save is money you keep.

5. If you have family working in the Middle East, stay in close contact. The government is actively repatriating OFWs. Know what support is available through DMW - financial assistance, reintegration programs, and reemployment services are being mobilized.

6. Build your emergency fund, even if it is PHP 500 per week. In a crisis, cash on hand is not a luxury. It is survival.

We have survived oil shocks before. We survived TRAIN. We survived COVID.

But surviving and surviving well are two different things. The difference is what you do right now, while you still have room to move.

At STPH, we always say: "Building the Philippines by building your family".

But what does that look like over four years?
(Swipe ➡️ 20018, 2022 and 2026)

It looks like intentionality.
With the rising concerns of bullying and the fast-paced digital world our Filipino children navigate, our homes must be their safest "command center."
We aren't just teaching lessons; we are building their internal compass.

Growth in life and in homeschooling is rarely linear or a straight line.
It has dips, pauses, and breakthroughs.
But when we lead with faith and systems thinking, we prepare our children to not just survive the world, but to change it.

Little by little, we rebuild.
One family, one home, one nation.

Sa mga kapwa ko magulang, how are we intentional today in molding the hearts of our children? Are we raising "upstanders" who will protect the weak, or are we too busy to notice the seeds of aggression growing?

Can't help but think about it more as a mom.

Ang bullying ay hindi lang isyu ng paaralan; it is a reflection of the foundation built at home.

When I read about senators proposing community service for parents of bullies, it’s a wake-up call for all of us. As a virtual business integrator, I always look at systems. If there is a "glitch" in the child's behavior, we have to look at the "source code." And more often than not, the source is the environment and the values we provide as parents.

This is what I believe:
1. Values are caught, not just taught.

2. Presence is protection. Kahit busy tayo sa trabaho o business, our emotional presence matters. Kids who feel heard at home are less likely to seek power by hurting others.

3. Accountability starts with us. Whether our child is the "upstander" (the one who defends) or the one who needs correction, we are the first line of response.

It’s time we shift the culture. Let’s not wait for a law or a penalty to remind us of our duty.

It begins and ends with us.
- Mommy Bernz

Following the multiple school bullying incidents, Senate conducted a hearing to discuss possible solutions to this issue. GMA Network promotes healthy debate...

Happy Birthday to a True Pillar of the Homeschooling World!

The journey of homeschooling is rarely a straight line. It’s a path paved with intentionality, a bit of chaos, and a whole lot of grace. For many of us, that path was made clearer by those who walked it before us with such conviction and heart.

Today, I want to honor someone who has been a guiding light for me since Day 1 of my own homeschooling journey: the wonderful Gena Suarez of The Old Schoolhouse.

Gena, your dedication to the homeschooling community globally has reached even our shores here in the Philippines. In the early days, when I was still figuring out how to integrate faith, family, and the systems needed to keep our home running, your voice was a constant source of inspiration. You didn't just share "how-tos"; you shared a vision of what a home-centered life could look like when anchored in purpose.

As a fellow homeschooling mom navigating the unique joys and challenges of raising a family in the Philippines, I am so grateful for the "Old Schoolhouse" legacy you’ve built. You’ve helped me see that homeschooling isn't just about the academics... It’s about the heart of the home and the legacy we leave for our children.

Maligayang Bati, Gena! May your day be filled with the same warmth and encouragement you have poured into thousands of families over the years. We celebrate you today!

Hello Pilipinas! Kumusta ka? Mommy Bernz here.

I was reflecting today on how far we’ve come since we started our homeschooling journey back in 2010. Looking back, there’s one myth I used to hear a lot... one that almost stopped me before I even began.

The Myth: “Homeschooling is only for the rich, the influential, or those with fancy cars and big houses.”

For a long time, the image of a "homeschooler" felt like something out of a glossy magazine. But after 16 years of living this out, I can tell you with full conviction: That is simply not true.

Our "Sulit-Tipid" Reality

Our journey wasn't paved with a private van or a custom-built playroom. Hindi siya pang-Pinterest. In fact, it looked a lot like the life of many Filipino families:

Commuter Life: We didn't own a vehicle. Our "school bus" was the local jeepney and the provincial bus. Those rides became our classroom for patience and observing the world.

The Rental Life: We’ve been renting our home in the Philippines for years. You don’t need to own a mansion to create a space where a child’s heart can grow.

Resourcefulness over Riches: We didn't always have the latest imported kits. We used second-hand books, borrowed resources, and I even spent nights DIY-ing our own curriculum to fit our budget and our faith.

It was sulit, it was tipid, and it was 100% Pinoy.

A Faith-Anchored Success

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that God doesn’t call the "equipped" (those who have it all); He equips those He calls.

Success in homeschooling isn't measured by the brand of your laptop or the aesthetic of your shelves. It’s measured by the quality of time you spend with your children and the values you integrate into their daily lives.

We may not have had the luxury of a car, but we had the luxury of presence. And in God’s economy, that is the greatest wealth of all.

To all the moms out there, like me before, who feel... she "isn't enough" or "don't have enough" to start: Be brave. If the heart is willing and the faith is grounded, the resources will follow. You can do this the "diskarteng" Pinoy way.

Reflect with me: What is one "myth" about your current season that you are finally letting go of?

Let’s chat in the comments. I’d love to pray for you and cheer you on!
