🇵🇭 40th EDSA People Power Revolution: 40 Years of Freedom and Unity
This February 25, 2026, the Philippines commemorates the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, a historic moment that restored democracy and proved the strength of united citizens.
From February 22 to 25, 1986, millions of Filipinos gathered along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue to call for change. After years of Martial Law and political unrest under Ferdinand Marcos, the Filipino people stood together in peaceful protest. The 1983 assassination of Benigno Aquino Jr. further ignited the nation’s demand for justice and reform.
When snap elections in 1986 were marred by allegations of fraud, supporters of Corazon Aquino gathered in protest. What followed was a remarkable display of unity—families, students, religious leaders, and workers stood side by side. Armed not with weapons but with prayers, flowers, and courage, they peacefully faced military forces.
On February 25, 1986, the Marcos family left the country, and Corazon Aquino was sworn in as president, marking the restoration of democracy in the Philippines.
A Lesson for Today’s Generation
Forty years later, EDSA remains a symbol of hope, courage, and the power of collective action. For today’s youth, the revolution serves as a reminder that freedom and democracy must be protected and strengthened.
As students and future leaders, may we continue to value truth, unity, and active citizenship—because the spirit of People Power lives on in every Filipino who stands for what is right.
