Albay is now under a state of calamity due to the continuing rise in dengue cases and dengue-related deaths.

According to the Albay Provincial Health Officeโ€“Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PHO-PESU), the province recorded 1,785 cumulative dengue cases and 14 deaths from January 1 to September 8, 2026. All 18 cities and municipalities in Albay have recorded dengue cases.

The declaration of a state of calamity allows the provincial government to strengthen its response, including the procurement of testing kits, vector-control chemicals, medical supplies, and other necessary equipment. Authorities are also urging communities to intensify efforts to eliminate mosquito-breeding sites.

Common symptoms of dengue may include:

โ€ข High fever
โ€ข Severe headache
โ€ข Pain behind the eyes
โ€ข Muscle, joint, or bone pain
โ€ข Nausea or vomiting
โ€ข Skin rashes

โš ๏ธ Warning signs require immediate medical attention. These may include severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding, rapid breathing, extreme weakness, restlessness, or other sudden changes in condition.

โ€ข WEAR clothes that cover exposed parts of the body that can be bitten by mosquitoes
โ€ข Remove mosquito breeding sites around your home

โ€ข SEEK medical care if you develop dengue symptoms

The Mariners College Red Cross Youth Council (MCRCYC) successfully concluded its interview and screening process for aspiring Red Cross Youth volunteers.

A total of 275 applicants registered for the selection process, with applicants who attended the scheduled interview given the opportunity to demonstrate their willingness, dedication, and commitment to becoming part of an organization built on service and compassion.

Following the completion of the screening process, 81 applicants successfully passed the interview, bringing them one step closer to becoming part of the MCRCYC family.

Today, the council proudly presents the Official List of Interview Passers.

The MCRCYC extends its heartfelt congratulations to the 81 successful passers and recognizes their achievement as the beginning of a meaningful journey centered on service, compassion, responsibility, and dedication.

May their willingness to serve continue to inspire others and contribute to the mission of the Red Cross Youth.

The Mariners College Red Cross Youth Council (MCRCYC) has successfully wrapped up its 3-Day Interview & Screening for aspiring Red Cross Youth volunteers! ๐Ÿฉนโœจ

From Elizaโ€™s Hall during the first two days to the Clinic Annex on the final day, aspiring volunteers showed their enthusiasm, dedication, and willingness to serve.

Three days of questions, conversations, and new beginningsโ€”and behind every interview was a shared goal: to be ready to serve when help is needed. โค๏ธ

As seen in the image, the heart of the Philippine Red Cross beats loudest through actionโ€”from relief distributions and medical missions to community health responses and logistical support in times of crisis. Wherever help is needed, our people are on the front lines, embodying our enduring commitment to be Always First, Always Ready, Always There.

As Chairman and CEO Richard J.
