The Belison Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BelMPC) was originally formed as a Credit Union on May 14, 1964 by 25 member’s cooperators and has initial Fixed Deposit of Php 145.00. Their desire was triggered with the aim of serving the credit needs of the members who had been suffering financial difficulty and the victims of usury. Touched by these common problems in the community, Rev. Cornelius Breed,
MHM, who was the first Parish Priest of Belison Catholic Church, initiated the move and guided the incorporators in organizing and development process. Registered as Belison Credit Union Inc., under Cooperative Administration Office, Department of Commerce and Industry with Certificate of Registration No. 000953. Re-registered on May 12, 1975 with Certificate of Registration No. under the Bureau of Cooperative Development of Local Government and Community Development (DLGCD). This people’s organization has a humble beginning. It started managing affairs of the Cooperative without much serious and organized effort to lean on from the government or private agencies for technical aspects. This was more difficult when Fr. Breed left the place shortly it was organized. Fortunately, with dedication, perseverance and commitment of the officers, committees and foremost the ever-loyal Manager, the late Mrs. Adela P. Canja, the Cooperative was able to survive and managed to overcome hardships in its course of growth. More likely, the birth of Antique Cooperative Rural Extension Service (ANCORES) followed by the Antique Federation of Cooperatives (AFCCUI) gave much encouragement and confidence to the members. This institution gave much support to Belison Credit Cooperative, Inc. in terms of technical and educational needs. After Twenty One (21) years of grueling existence, Belison Credit Cooperative, Inc. gained remarkable recognition in Western Visayas Region for having been awarded as First Runner Up in 1986 for the selection of the “Most Outstanding Kilusang Bayan for Credit” conducted by the Department of Local Government and Community Development (DLGCD). Responding to the complex needs of its members, the Credit Cooperative eventually issued a Confirmation of Registration on July 30, 1991 with Confirmation No. ILO-C-161 and later on converted into Belison Multi-Purpose Cooperative Inc. in February 20, 1992 under the Certificate of Registration of Amendments of Articles of Cooperation and By Laws of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA). And on November 27, 2009 under the Article 144 of Republic Act No. 9520 otherwise known as the “Philippine Cooperative Code of 1998”, Belison Multi-Purpose Cooperative was issued a Confirmation of Registration No. 9520-06003195 with CIN-0102060082 by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and shall continue to enjoy the rights and privileged in accordance with RA 9520 and all other laws appurtenant thereto unless such Certificate is suspended or cancelled for cause. Through the convergence of the National Agencies, NGO’s, Local Government Unit of Belison and Academe, a new support program was established by the Cooperative, the Dairy Enterprise in 2007. To date, the Dairy DREAM (brand name) is patronized and already made its name in the Province of Antique. In 2012, there is a significant increase in Coop’s Assets by 22.13 M, Share Capital of 8.18 M and Savings Deposits of 13.77 M, this was made in just 5 years coop operation. And for the first time in coop history that the Coop earned an income of more than One (1) Million. It goes to show that the sense of member’s responsibility in their credit obligations and continuous savings and capital build up is dynamic. The Cooperative is now celebrating its 50th Foundation Anniversary Celebration, with its vibrant and proactive officers and management staff, the Belison Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BelMPC) envisioned to become stronger of the most trusted cooperative in Region VI. And a mission to provide excellent financial products and services to uplift the socio-economic conditions of members.
