The School of Health and Natural Sciences โ€“ Center for Natural Sciences (CNS) successfully brought the world of discovery to Bintawan National High School this March 11, 2026.

With the theme "Unlocking Wonders: From Theory to Experiment," the caravan turned the campus into a living laboratory. The STEM students didn't just listen, they experienced science firsthand! From exploring the "Invisible Universe" of microbes and the intricacies of frog anatomy to mastering chemical analysis and electrical flow, the day was packed with high-energy learning.

The event featured a series of expert-led lectures followed by five intensive Hands-On Laboratory Stations, where students engaged in everything from microscope viewing to exploring antioxidant power through DPPH Assay.

This initiative was spearheaded by Ms. Arcelle May Novida and Ms. Aila Laurice Panganiban, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Elsa Cajucom (CNS Director) and Dr. Christopher Allen Marquez (CEIPSC Director).

A huge thank you to the faculty, staff, and the BS Biology students who served as facilitators. Together, we are bridging the gap between the classroom and the laboratory! ๐Ÿงฌโœจ

Masoc Site Clearing 2026: Hands Dirty, Hearts Clearer ๐ŸŒฟโœจ

"Clear the site, clear your mind, clear your heart for nature!"

On February 28, 2026, the Marians United in Science and Technology (MUST) together with Center for Natural Sciences (CNS) community gathered at Masoc, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya to transform not just a forest, but their commitment to environmental stewardship. Armed with brooms, rakes, and determined spirits, students and faculty worked side-by-side during this 3-hour environmental crusade getting their hands dirty so that nature could breathe easier.

From the overgrown paths to the cleared pathways, the transformation was tangible. But more than just removing branches and clearing debris, this initiative cleared the path toward a sustainable future. Each pulled vine, each swept trail, each collective effort represented a promise to the forest and to our planet.

This environmental initiative is proudly rooted in Project Marian GREEN STEPS, Saint Mary's University's bold commitment to environmental responsibility, ecological restoration, and community service. Through GREEN STEPS, MUST and CNS continues to weave environmental consciousness into the fabric of student life, proving that real change happens when young minds and willing hands unite for a greener tomorrow.

TM Feature| A Gamble Won

For Nyl, stepping into Saint Maryโ€™s University (SMU) was never a sure victory. It was a gambleโ€”one made amidst grief, financial uncertainty, and a future clouded by circumstances beyond his control. Yet, against all odds, that uncertain leap of faith led him to stand proudly on the graduation stage as a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Biology, Magna Cum Laude. Today, he carries with him not only academic distinction but a story shaped by resilience, gratitude, and purpose.

Entering a private university meant risking more than academic pressure for Nyl. It meant stepping into a future he was unsure he could sustain. At that time, he did not even know whether he would be accepted into the program he pursued. Still, he chose to try, trusting that the risk might lead him somewhere better. That risk soon unfolded into a journey marked by trials that could have easily derailed his dreams.

The most devastating came in December 2021. On the very first day of his final examinations, his father, the anchor of his ambitions, passed away. The loss struck him at a crucial turning point in his academic life, leaving him shocked and emotionally shaken.

Raised in a broken family, he grew up under the care of a single father who worked tirelessly, even going abroad just to sustain his sonโ€™s education from an early age. Every opportunity Nyl received was rooted in sacrifice and every achievement built upon years of his fatherโ€™s hard work and unwavering belief in his sonโ€™s potential. The grief threatened to overwhelm him, arriving at a moment when he needed strength the most. Yet, in the silence left behind by loss, Nyl held on to the memory of his fatherโ€™s sacrifices. He carried with him the conviction that his father trusted him to endure. Each lecture he attended, every exam he answered, and every requirement he completed became more than academic responsibilitiesโ€”they became promises fulfilled for the man who raised him.

While emotional hardship strengthened his resolve, financial struggles constantly shadowed his college journey. As an only child from a family with limited means, pursuing education in a private university seemed nearly impossible. But through the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholarship, which shouldered nearly all his educational expenses, SMU became accessible.

โ€œLagi ko ngang sinasabi sa iba na without being a Filipino taxpayer scholar, I would not be able to send myself to this university," he said.

This scholarship represented more than financial relief. It became a symbol of trust; trust that was placed upon him by Filipino taxpayers who invested in students they may never personally meet. Their support allowed him to focus on his studies while easing the burden on his family. More importantly, it shaped his sense of purpose, reminding him that his success was never his alone.

Beyond academic and financial struggles, Nyl also faced personal challenges, including health concerns within his family. Through it all, he remained anchored in faith, believing that every hardship carried meaning and that each setback was part of a greater plan guiding him forward.

As Nyl stepped and marched on the stage, it was more than an achievement. It is the culmination of sacrifices made by a father who dedicated his life to his sonโ€™s future, and it stands as a testament to the power of collective support from a nation that continues to invest in its scholars.

What once felt like an uncertain decision became a life-defining victory. Nyl entered SMU, unsure if he would succeed. Today, he left with honors, shaped by resilience and guided by gratitudeโ€”carrying with him the legacy of those who made his journey possible.

As he looks toward the future, Nyl carries these words not only as a message, but as an open conversation with the people who shaped his path.

โ€œTo my late father, I hope that wherever you are right now, you are proud of me and I hope that you will continue to guide me in my future endeavors in life,โ€ Nyl shared.

And, as his story stretches beyond personal triumph, it echoes into a wider callโ€”one that reflects his understanding of the responsibility that comes with being an 'iskolar ng bayan.'

โ€œTo all iskolar ng bayan, I hope that you will fulfill our mission to give back to the Filipino taxpayers that allowed us to reach this graduation,โ€ he stated.

In these words lie the true victory of Nylโ€™s gambleโ€”not just the honors he earned, but the legacy he chooses to carry forward.

โ€”

The celebration officially began with the opening of the program by MUST President Allen Afalla. With the food too tempting to resist, students eagerly dug in, setting a lively tone for the rest of the event. Laughter echoed around the room as colorful and exciting games followed. Casual conversations and shared moments grew even more fun when the faculty arrived, adding to the cheerful atmosphere. The highlight of the day soon arrived with the much-anticipated gift exchange, bringing smiles all around.๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ’

The party came to a close with everyone heading their separate ways, hearts full and smiles wide. It has been a rollercoaster of challenges and achievements this first semester, but every struggle was met with determination and unity. Happy Holidays, CNS Fam!โค๏ธโœจ

This study aims to Formulate and Evaluate an Activated Charcoal Hydrogel from a Coconut Huskโ€”known as the Tree of life for its cultural icon providing sustenance. With the help of phytochemistry, microbiology, and formulation in science, this project hopes to open doors for opportunities in utilizing it more into Antimicrobial Products.

Expressing the gratitude to everyone who inspired, and supported her in this endeavor. Especially the Research Adviser Dr. Elsa L. Cajucom for her competency skills and untiring support to the Researcher. This simply represents the first step toward improving this notion into significant outcomes from science. . ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿงซ๐Ÿ”ฌ
