The Mid-Project Review (MPR) of the ongoing ACIARโPCAARRD funded projects titled โManaging Heavy Metals and Soil Contaminants in Vegetable Production to Ensure Food Safety and Environmental Health in the Philippinesโ (ACIAR SLaM/2020/117) and โAssessment and Management of Plant Essential Heavy Metals (PEHM), Nutrients, and Pathogens in Vegetable Production to Enhance Soil Health and Food Safety in the Philippinesโ was held at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, on August 21, 2025.
The review featured the presentation of project updates and key accomplishments from each collaborating institution โ the University of Queensland (UQ), University of the Philippines Los Baรฑos (UPLB), Visayas State University (VSU), and the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP)โClaveria. Discussions also highlighted the challenges encountered during project implementation and the strategies developed to improve future activities.
The review panel was composed of representatives from the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and the Department of Science and TechnologyโPhilippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOSTโPCAARRD), through its Agricultural Resources Management Research Division (ARMRD).
๐ฑ This review serves as an important step in assessing the projectโs progress and strengthening efforts toward safer and more sustainable vegetable production in the Philippines.
