Inside Bayawan Nature Reserve, wildlife roams freely through the landscape. From time to time, animals may cross the roads as they move between different parts of their habitat.

Our wildlife crossing signs serve as a simple reminder to slow down, stay alert, and give them space. Whether it’s a Visayan Spotted Deer or a Visayan Warty Pig, these are some of the species we work to conserve and protect at BNR.

So when you're inside the reserve, take it slow. You never know who you might meet along the road. Wildlife is around, and this is their home too.

Today, we celebrate the animal keepers of Negros Forest Park and Bayawan Nature Reserve and the important role they play in caring for animals and supporting conservation.

Animal keeping goes beyond daily feeding and enclosure care. It involves observation, enrichment, health monitoring, and understanding the individual needs of each animal.

At Negros Forest Park, our keepers care for animals in an ex-situ setting, supporting their welfare, breeding, rehabilitation, and conservation education.

At Bayawan Nature Reserve, our keepers work in an in-situ conservation setting, caring for animals in soft-release enclosures and supporting them as they prepare to return to the wild.

Different settings, different responsibilities, but a shared commitment to the animals in their care.

The 𝟭𝟮𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗖𝗦𝗖) 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 brought Bayawan City’s 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 to 𝗕𝗮𝘆𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗻 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲!

BNR was one of the locations for the city-wide Amazing Race, where participants took on a series of 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 carried out at the reserve. Rather than simply passing through BNR, the challenges gave teams a chance to experience some of the field skills, observations, and activities that are part of our work.

From navigating the forest to looking closely at the biodiversity around them, each challenge was designed to 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝗻 𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗽𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗡𝗥.

Out in the forest, there’s always something that catches your eye.

During their fieldwork around the reserve, Jashy and Ika took a moment to capture the views, wildlife, and little details that caught their attention. Using a simple frame made of wood and string, they brought these moments into focus, highlighting some of the things they encountered along the way.

Details are everywhere in nature. You just have to look a little closer.

Art is all around us, and sometimes, the artists leave their work behind.

One of our tasks here at the reserve is monitoring the wildlife that call BNR home. One way we do this is by looking for secondary animal signs, such as footprints, tree rubbings, wallows, rooting, droppings, and other signs of their presence.

These signs can tell us who has been moving through the forest, even when the animals themselves are nowhere in sight.
