The World Health Organization Western Pacific Region was certified as polio-free in 2000. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of this achievement, we invited Dr. Shigeru Omi, who led WHO’s polio eradication efforts in the region from start to finish, to reflect on the story behind that victory.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐁𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 8 🤰🏻👩🏻‍🍼

Yesterday, November 19, 2024, MP Gerald De Chavez actively participated in Bokal Claudette Ambida’s Legacy Project entitled 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗕𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘀, which aims to protect and improve the welfare of pregnant women in Batangas City. In its eight years, Bokal Ambida, together with the help of the Rotary Club of Batangas and Soroptimist International Kabatangueña, provided the beneficiaries with essentials for newborn care, and they were also given health education regarding proper breastfeeding. This event was not only useful to the recipients, but it was also 𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 at the same time.

The event started with a prayer led by Rotarian Amy Untalan, followed by a brief welcome remarks by Bokal Ambida, who also happened to be a past president of RC Batangas. Afterwards, PP Ros Evangelio shared some insightful and inspiring messages with the beneficiaries on behalf of MP Pheng De Chavez. The president of SI Kabatangueña, Ma’am Sharon Geronimo, was also given a chance to share her advocacy, wherein she imparted the recipients with knowledge on the importance and the appropriate ways of breastfeeding. Certainly, all of their messages ignited hope and encouragement for the 80 beneficiaries.

Bokal Ambida’s Project Buntis is a testimony of her strong campaign on caring for pregnant women in our beloved city. As a mother, she deeply knows the struggles and challenges that a woman faces in her pregnancy journey. She inspiringly shared that it really took a long way for her to get pregnant, and this project is her way of giving back. Apart from Project Buntis, she also stated there are numerous projects and programs catering to pregnant women allotted by the city's LGU. As a matter of fact, one major indicator that a community is healthy is when there is a low infant mortality rate, and 𝙬𝙚, 𝙍𝘼𝘾 𝘽𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙨, 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨.

𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬, 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞 💓

Mental health is an integral part of our overall wellbeing. It’s the one that enables us to think, feel, act, and connect with other people. In support of spreading awareness on the importance of mental health, MP Gerald De Chavez actively participated in the webinar hosted by the Rotaract Club of Bauan entitled “𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲: 𝗔 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸" on October 20, 2024. Even in the short span of time, this webinar has truly inspired the participants to take better care of their mental health and empower others who are also struggling.

Engr. Lumuel Acosta, who’s the esteemed speaker of this event, has shared tons of insights that spark enlightenment in the participants’ minds. Not only did we have a deeper understanding of mental health, but we also learned invaluable life lessons that will definitely help us as we navigate our paths. His life experiences, ups and downs, were no joke at all. We’re flabbergasted by how resilient he is, and we are deeply moved by his words. He is indeed an inspiration.

In this life full of uncertainties and challenges, 𝙞𝙩’𝙨 𝙤𝙠𝙖𝙮 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙤𝙠𝙖𝙮. We’re just humans after all. We feel. Numerous people are having a hard time dealing with varying mental health problems. And that’s a reason why a simple act of kindness and creating a safe space for everyone can be of great help in overcoming such difficulties. We are never alone in this life journey. We will always have someone, and 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙖 𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙚.
