The Norwegian Shipowners' Association (NSA) Cadet Program is an unrivaled program with the objective of developing the next generation of Filipino maritime professionals through scholarship grants and the best maritime education. 30 June 2022 - LPU-Batangas' LIMA signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Norwegian Shipowners' Association (NSA) as an official NSA partner school. The outstanding per

Preparing for the next step at sea, the LPU-B NSA 31st Batch attended an ๐จ๐ง-๐›๐จ๐š๐ซ๐ ๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ง๐  ๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง on April 18, Saturday, at the LIMA AVR, spearheaded by Onboard Training Supervisor, 2E Laurence Binay. The session aimed to guide cadets on the ๐ซ๐ž๐ช๐ฎ๐ข๐ซ๐ž๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ, ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐œ๐ž๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ž๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ for their upcoming onboard training, as well as the post-training assessments that follow.

Through an interactive discussion and open question-and-answer portion, cadets were given the opportunity to clarify concerns and gain practical insightsโ€”ensuring they are well-informed, prepared, and confident as they move closer to real shipboard experience. โš“

We were warmly welcomed by LPU President Dr. Laurel, his dedicated team, and an impressive group of NSA cadets. LPU-Batangas, through the Lyceum International Maritime Academy (LIMA), welcomed a delegation spearheaded by the Norwegian Embassy, accompanied by officials from the Norwegian Directorate General and other key figures from the Norwegian Government on April 16, 2026.

Present during the visit were LPU-Batangas officials led by University President Dr. Peter P. Laurel, who engaged with the delegates in meaningful discussions with the Universityโ€™s top management.

The visit included a tour of LIMAโ€™s facilities and a dialogue with Norwegian Shipownersโ€™ Association (NSA) scholar cadets. The engagement aimed to reaffirm their commitment to quality maritime service, equip cadets with essential knowledge in cybersecurity, and boost their morale as future maritime professionals.

This initiative highlights the continued partnership between LPU-Batangas and Norwegian maritime institutions in shaping globally competitive seafarers.

Last night, March 28, 2026, LPU-B NSA Cadets took part in Earth Hour 2026 from 2030H to 2130H. Cabin lights were out, non-essential electrical loads were shut down, and energy consumption was minimized. For some, it may seem like just one hour, but that single hour reflects our shared responsibility in protecting our future.

Earth Hour reminds us that even the simplest actions can create real impact. By switching off our lights, we stand together in raising awareness about climate change and in protecting our only home.

For NSA Cadets, this was also a time for connection, a moment to pause, set aside our phones, and simply share conversations with fellow NSA cadets.

On March 26, 2026, Solstad cadets at LPU Batangas had the privilege of hosting representatives from Solstad Offshore for a meaningful engagement highlighting cadet welfare and development.

The event was graced by the presence of Solstad Offshore COO Mr. Tor Johan Tveit, Solstad Offshore Crewing Services Philippines Inc. President and General Manager CE Jean Vincent Abobo, Solstad Management Philippines President and General Manager Ms. Daryl Sevilleno, and Ms. Patricia Belen of Solstad Offshore Philippines.

During the visit, the executives took time to personally check on the welfare of the cadets, giving them the opportunity to openly share their experiences, challenges, and daily life on campus.
The engagement also featured a quick campus tour, where the executives explored the facilities of the Lyceum International Maritime Academy, gaining a clearer view of the environment where cadets are trained, disciplined, and prepared for life at sea.

With this, the visit stands as a reflection of Solstadโ€™s continuous support, guidance, and commitment to shaping future maritime professionals, leaving the cadets with a meaningful reminder:

On March 25, 2026, Utkilen cadets at LPU Batangas warmly welcomed representatives from their sponsoring company. The engagement reminded them that every step they take now shapes the seafarers they are becoming.

Through the guidance of Maritime HR Manager Sir Are Paulsen and Ownerโ€™s Representative Maโ€™am Jil Matti, cadets learned that this path demands discipline, humility, and strong character. Beyond technical knowledge, the discussion emphasized health, mindset, and integrity, showing that who they are as individuals matters as much as what they know as future officers.

The cadets were also briefed on current industry developments and challenges. Utkilenโ€™s commitment to being safe, caring, and sustainable with the values guiding all operations was reinforced throughout the visit.

On March 25, 2026, the LPU-B NSA Solvang Cadets welcomed Solvang Philippines, Inc. for a short yet meaningful reunion that emphasizes Solvangโ€™s care for its cadets.

The gathering was held with HR Director Mr. Kjetil Meling, Solvang Philippines President Mr. Virgilio Lopez Jr., Vice President Mr. Iriz Jimmy Lin Paiton, Operations Manager Mr. Melecio T. Edem Jr., together with Ms. Clarisse Bayan, Mrs. Jovie Mendoza, Mrs. Rowena Orense, Ms. Wenniebelle Llorera and its dear cadets.

The company visited in order to update on an expanded opportunity in regards to the new vessels welcomed by Solvang itself, to converse and communicate personally before the holy week, and to provide its cadets a short yet needed time off to enjoy in eating, conversing, dancing, and singing as company mates together. โ€œWhich we did so passionately!โ€ as said by Cadet Bagalihog and company mates.

That can only happen simply because of Solvangโ€™s core values namely: Mutual respect, Quality, and Team Spirit. To have a moment of laughter, to have a brief recap on the experiences that happened so far, to bond, and share something personal with your company.

Odfjell has been an active member of the Norwegian Shipownersโ€™ Association since the early 2000s and has since then produced hundreds of world class โ€œOdfjell standardโ€ maritime officers.
Odfjell was represented by Cadetship Administrator Shaun Hendrick Diocko and Crewing Manager Marites Villena where they had meaningful discussions with the universityโ€™s on-board training officer, coordinators, food concessionaires, and their sponsored cadets.

The cadets were further inducted into the companyโ€™s standards on safety, performance and professionalism. Previous academic and on-board performances were also presented and studied to occupy rooms for improvement and to fill in gaps. The event instilled the ever-important Odfjell education on the spirit of โ€œsafety firstโ€ and โ€œgoing beyondโ€ to be upheld and passed over the years and chosen few to come.
