Today, we commemorate the 84th anniversary of Day of Valorโ€”a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of Filipino heroes who fought for our freedom.

On April 9, 1942, Filipino and American soldiers endured the fall of Bataan, marking one of the darkest chapters in our history. What followed was the Bataan Death March, where thousands suffered and gave their lives. Yet even in the face of unimaginable hardship, their bravery and resilience stood unbroken. The peace and independence we enjoy today were never handed to usโ€”they were fought for through sacrifice, courage, and lives laid down for the sake of future generations.

The spirit of valor lives on in every Filipino who chooses courage, even in the quiet battles of everyday life.

Today, we commemorate the anniversary of the People Power Revolutionโ€”a defining moment that changed the course of our nationโ€™s story.

On February 25, 1986, millions of Filipinos filled Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, not with weapons, but with courage, prayers, and hope. They stood side by side, believing that change was possible. EDSA was more than a political eventโ€”it was proof that when ordinary people come together with conviction, they can reclaim their future.

This day hits differently when you really think about it. The freedom we have now was never automatic. It came from sacrifice, from voices that refused to stay silent, from people who chose to stand firm even when it was difficult.

As we remember this day, I hope we donโ€™t just scroll past it. May we carry the lessons of EDSA with usโ€”stay aware, stay critical, and never take our democracy for granted.

The spirit of EDSA lives on in every Filipino who still believes in truth and accountability.
