KBP September GMM tackles digital expansion, franchise issues

The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) held its General Membership Meeting (GMM) for September in Makati, bringing together network owners, executives, and representatives from across the country.

Roy Bato, founding president of the KBP CALABARZON Chapter and representative of St. Jude Thaddeus Institute of Technology—which operates Infinite Radio, a commercial FM station serving progressive areas in the Philippines—said the meeting focused on three major points.

First, members discussed preparations for the upcoming Top Level Management Conference (TLMC), one of KBP’s flagship events where industry leaders gather to address pressing broadcast and media concerns.

Second, the body tackled the possibility of opening KBP membership to non-traditional broadcast players such as content providers and radio streaming platforms. The proposal, however, is still subject to further review and final approval by the KBP Board.

Third, discussions also centered on the continuity of KBP member networks with franchises currently on hold or undergoing renewal. Ensuring these stations remain compliant and supported during the process was highlighted as a key concern.

The KBP GMM, an exclusive monthly gathering of broadcast executives, continues to serve as a platform for dialogue, policy shaping, and strengthening the country’s broadcasting industry amid rapid digital transformation.

The BBC Research & Development Department and Sony are collaborating on a hugely significant step in ensuring the trustworthiness of content in the current digital landscape 🤝

As part of the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), we are working to establish robust workflows for verifying the authenticity of digital content.

One of the world’s first use cases of testing a C2PA workflow with video content has been prepared using Sony’s newly launched . This is the world´s first camcorder to embed digital signatures into video files, supporting the C2PA standard.

As part of the IBC Accelerator project, the BBC used a PXW-Z300 to shoot a video to demonstrate how users can verify the authenticity of video content using devices that support C2PA. By checking the content credentials, users can see whether a video was captured by a real camera, who published it, and if it has been manipulated.

An authenticity workflow will be exhibited at as part of the IBC Accelerator Programme in Hall 14. ​

President’s Report

Roy Bato, Chapter Chairman of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), CALABARZON attended the August Monthly General Membership Meeting held at the San Lorenzo Village Clubhouse in Makati City.

The guest for today’s event, Cignal TV Group, presented a new platform that will soon host KBP stations nationwide — a big step forward for the industry.

As we look at the current media landscape, it’s clear that the broadcast industry is regaining strong traction. Social media today is flooded not only with fake news but also with malicious AI-generated content that can easily mislead the public.

In contrast, radio and television stations under KBP remain the most trusted and credible sources of news and information — a role that has become even more vital in protecting truth and public trust in these challenging times.
