Crafting Hope and Opportunities: Skills Training on Weaving and Crafts Making for BAVIPDL SLP Association

Project LIT-UP has always been about more than just literacy; it’s about transformation. As we move into this new chapter at the Barotac Viejo District Jail, our mission has evolved. We realized that for rehabilitation to be truly sustainable, we must address the economic heart of the challenge—providing not just knowledge, but the means to a livelihood.

Through the dedicated efforts of our Office of Extension Services, we are humbled to have secured a DSWD-SLP Livelihood Grant. This diversified funding allows us to bridge the gap between education and industry, offering a holistic path forward for the Barotac Viejo PDL SLP Association.

🤝 Synergy in Action: A Shared Journey
This initiative is a true "convergence of hope," made possible by partners who believe in second chances:

• Mr. Anthony C. Laru-an (Provincial Coordinator, DSWD-SLP, Iloilo) & Ms. Jo Ann L. Montes (Project Development Officer): We extend our sincere gratitude for their instrumental roles in facilitating the livelihood grant that turns our training into a sustainable reality.

• JSUPT Atty. Jairus Anthony Dogelio (District Jail Warden): For his leadership and for opening the doors to these life-changing opportunities.

• Hon. Nielo C. Tupas & LGU Barotac Viejo: For their incredible generosity in providing logistics, including the meals and snacks for the entire training duration!

We're proud to partner with LGU-Barotac Viejo, BJMP, and ALS Barotac Viejo to bring an Eco-Literacy Training and Sustainable Backyard/Urban Gardening program to our Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs). The training focused on using upcycled materials and wrapped up with a heartwarming Gift-Giving Activity!
